        Hi guys,

Sorry for no introduction. I just have a minute because I have people visiting and need to hurry. I am the worst bunny mom in history!! I have people over, and last night one of them left their 12 case of Coke cans on my floor. When we got back from being out, I didn’t even realize it and let Buster out to roam over night (my room is bunny proofed, except of course.. cola.) This morning I woke up to him chewing and ripping apart the box. When I went to look, I realized that he had chewed open one of the cans and it had leaked. He was of course treating himself to a nice treat of sugary, caffeinated pop…

I am SO worried. He’s been doing binkies literally ALL morning (gotta love caffeine right…) I always give him a few pellets out of my hand when I first get up and he didn’t take them. He’s eating his lettuce now, but not all of it. I don’t hear any stomach gurgling or anything (yet), but if that does happen what should I do? I know it technically won’t be GI stasis because there wouldn’t be a blockage. I gave him a nice big bowl of fresh water, and I’m going to change his litter box so I can really pay attention to what’s going on down there. I poured out the rest of the can into a cup, and it looks like about 1/3 is gone (but I also picked some of that amount up with paper towel.)

Does anybody have any suggestions? I’m so worried, I know there’s TONS of crap in Coke and even I try not to drink it… let alone give it to my bunny.

I’d be concerned with bloat as well so keep a close eye on him the next couple of hours…

Get some baby simethicone if you can, most likely side effect of that would be gas from the carbonation. Caffeine is bad for them, but a little bit shouldn’t hurt him. And of course corn syrup is bad, but again a little shouldn’t hurt. Keep an eye on his appetite. Maybe some tummy massages if he starts to seem a little gassy and give him some simethicone to help break it up.

Perfect, thanks. I went to the pharmacy and got something with simethicone in it. They said they didn’t have any pure of it… is that okay? It’s “Ovol” brand, and says it’s for fast, gentle relief of infant colic due to gas. It’s mint flavoured and contains: aluminum magnesium silicate, carboxymethylecullose sodium, citric acid, flavour, hydrogen peroxide, polyxoly-8-sterate, purified water, saccharine sodium, sodium benzoate, sucrose. The pharmacist said that all of this stuff was just to make it into a liquid formula. I don’t want to give him anything too unnatural or anything, but this is all that they had. Do you think that it would work or be okay? It is mint flavoured but I’m not sure if it’s natural mint or not.

Also, sorry for double post. If it is okay to give to him, how much should I give? It says that for infants: 0.25 mL – 0.50 mL. He is a little over 4 pounds.

I use Ovol brand for my buns. It’s perfectly safe. The rec dosage for buns is 1ml every hour for 3 hours and then once every few hours after that. I would probably give him 1 dose and then no more unless he is showing discomfort.
