Since we’ve had Ian and put him on the other side of the house Skipper has been obsessed with getting to him and attacking him. She’s jumped over the 24 in baby gate we had to get to him. Which caused us to go get a 32 in baby gate to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Wednesday she chomped on the bf because she escaped from her pen (we forgot to ziptie her pen to her cage close) while Ian was out and she was trying to attack Ian but the bf got in the way of the attack. Then today she was intent on getting past the towels we put around the gate so she couldn’t chew on the bars. I’m totally baffled though. Because instead of displaying her normally aggressive behavior she just sat there staring at Ian.

Staring at Ian and Playing Coy???

I’m totally baffled as to what it means. And to be honest I don’t really expect anyone to. But I was hoping if someone with multiple rabbits could shed some insight.

Rupert and kokanee hated each other like that-they actually sought each other out for fights. Kokanee didn’t live much longer after I adopted Rupert so I never got to try to work past it but i’ve thought a lot about it and I don’t think I could have ever gotten them together. Is bonding your only option or are you set up and prepared to have them separate long term? I think it would be a ton of work and a lot of stress to do anything with this type of relationship

Oh no Ian is just the foster bun. We’re hoping to help him get adopted by a loving family. I would just loveeee to be able to let the two of them run around at the same time in the morning before I go to work without trying to kill each other. It would my life a lot easier and cut down on cleaning/separate play time. That’s how the bf ended up getting hurt. I had Ian out and he didn’t realize and didn’t tell me he was letting Skipps out. Skipper mad dashed to the baby gate and ripped the towels down. Ian was curious as to what was going on and bounced on over to see her. Skipper went into full on attack mode and tried to attack Ian. The bf has a real soft spot for Ian and took the bite for him.

It isn’t a good idea to put buns together unless you intend to bond. They aren’t dogs, so they don’t casually socialize. Either they will fight or bond and then they would both be depressed when the foster goes to his new home.

I’m not trying to bond them. I just wish they would coexist peacefully and not try to kill each other through the bars. Or try to chew threw them. -.- That’s why we have Ian on the other side of the house. And that’s why we put the towels up around the gate. we thought if they didn’t see each other it would be okay. But Skipper’s proven she’ll just chew through the towels to stare at him. >.<

I’ll just give up on my hope to have them run around at the same time to help save play/clean time.

I think initially she was just curious about what the new thing was in the house – she may just be getting used to him and is trying to trust him.

I’ve had multiple rabbits together in the same room when I used to foster and now I have my 3 seniors in the same room – they get along just fine but I think it’s due to age and the fact they’ve coexisted so long.

I would allow her to stare at him – she is probably just sizing him up.

Thanks Sarita. I think she just needed that good long stare because this morning she ignored him even when he was tearing up his box and making tons of noise. I’m just hoping at the adoption speed dating event that Ian finds a loving home and Skips finds a nice husbun.
