At the risk of being redundant, I am trying to set up an x-pen for my bunny, Maxxie. I have two questions.

        1) he is a mini lop, will 36 inches be high enough for him?

        2) what is an inexpensive flooring I can use because he likes to pull at my carpet and I don’t want him eating it. And concrete links and specific items named would be great.

Thank you for your help. I’m trying to be a better bunny mother because I am in college and can’t let him free roam because of our dogs

36″ will suffice unless he has some kind box/house in the cage that he can jump on to get higher.

i use those kids’ puzzle mats covered by an old blanket under callie’s xpen. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11773791

I am currently looking into different flooring options as well.
I was thinking of the puzzle mats too but I wasn’t sure if my bunny would chew on them. I am hesitant to put down a blanket because he tends to pee/chew on blankets
There is another thread in this section with flooring ideas, some recommended plywood with sticky back tiles on it. I may go that route. Just not sure what to use as cushion that he won’t pee on or try to eat!

I built Sally a larger pen the other day and used those puzzle mats from toys r us too! She hasn’t chewed on them yet but I sprayed the chew deterrent on the edges before even giving her a chance as a precautionary lol

Hmmm, but I thought that flooring was bad because if they chew it it can be toxic.

My bun has a cage I plan on attaching to the x pen, I would like opinions on how to make sure he doesn’t climb, because he will. I guess I could always just attach the x pen to the wall far away from the cage.

I bought an area carpet/rug as flooring for my buns’ room. Their place already has carpeting but this is so they don’t ruin it. I bought a 8’x6′ at bed bath and beyond.on sale for about $20 (if you time it right, they have sales after school starts). On one section, all the carpet piles have been rug out but the backing is thick so they haven’t dug through that yet =).

I just remembered that my bun doesn’t like to nest, I put some flannel in his cage and he peed and pooped all over it. If I put the squares down and a blanket over top, he would probably do the same. Any other suggestions?

So I have done some research and it seems a shower curtain liner with a sheet on top seems to be a great option, if anyone is interested. You can get both sheets and shower curtains at the dollar store.

hmm. interesting. I may consider that as well
I’m no expert but you may want to be sure you open the shower curtain and air it out prior to putting it in the pen with the bunny as they can let off toxic fumes. Which may not be good with bunny sitting right on top of it.
That’s actually recommended before humans hang them in showers too.

Do you guys think a 36 in high x-pen is high enough? Or should I get a higher one? Or maybe just a top?

I think 36″ is what is recommended.

36″ is the minimun recommended. So If you have a larger rabbit or a jumper it would be best to go a bit higher. I have small rabbits, but I have a cottontail cottage inside the X-pen and 1 very agile bun, so mine is 48″.

Hmmm. It seems likely that I’m going to have to go bigger then. I’m not real sure how much he can jump now because he hasn’t attempted to in a while. Hmmm….

So apparently the bunny world record for high jumps is 39.2 inches high. Therefore I am going to get a 42 cause my bun is a chunker and I don’t think he can beat a world record
