I’ve had a food dehydrater I bought at Fleet Farm years ago I use to make beef jerky once in a blue moon. Well, I drained a 20 oz. can of Dole Pineapple chunks, spread em out on two of the 8 trays I have. I used those 2 and 2 empty trays just to circulate the air a bit more, and let it run for about 8 hours turning the chunks ever so often. My god, Velvet would do almost anything for a piece. I bought some dried banana’s and I shake the bag while lying on the floor and she’ll come running up and I unzip the bag, she crawls right inside and grabs a banana chunk, runs off in the corner and runs back for another. I haven’t been able to dehydrate bananas yet, but 8 hous on pineapple chenks does a nice job. I had bought a bag of dried pineapples at Wal-Mart I think, and after feeding her most of the bag I read the ingredients, and they were covered with sugar……………………….Not anymore. Mine are 100% plain dried pineapple. She loves it!

I think dried fruit is especially loved by bunnies because with no water, it’s especially sweet! If your drying yourself that means it’s really healthy as you aren’t adding anything to it -it’s just plain old fruit! That’s super! The only thing to watch is consider the dried portion as big as if it were not dried-i.e. it’s super easy to eat a dried peach, you could eat 3-4 but you’d never eat 3-4 peaches with water! So you just want to limit it the same as you would size-wise as fresh fruit. But that’s it-what a super healthy treat for you and Velvet!

          Hmmm….now I think I want a food dehydrator!

It’s tempting me to get a food dehydrator too, does anyone know if they work with things like tomatoes too? Loki loves dried papaya and I’ve tried it with the girls too who don’t seem to mind it. It’d also come in handy if I get a bumper crop from my beginner garden

i’ve been toying with the idea of getting one myself, as the buns do adore their dried papaya and cranberries. Plus, I looooove me some fresh beef jerky!

I buy the Jerky sasoning at Wal-Mart. The brand is Wild Game Jerky Seasoning. I love the spicy blend but it’s too much for my wife. I but a real nice Bottom Round roast that usually just has only one side with about 1/4″ of fat on it that can be trimmed off easily. I bought a meat slicer too, but you can have it done by you meat department. You want 1/8-3/16 thick pieces, and I usual buy about a 3+ pound roast. Even if it’s closer to 4 pounds I mix the seasoning to 3 pounds and spread the slices out on some freezer paper, which you can buy by the roll. Season both sides then seal in some tupperware overnight or for 24 hours. After about 1-2 hours in the dehydrator I flip each piece as it will stick to the tray pretty good if not, then about every hour or so I rotate the trays top to the bottom and so on. Jerky is done in about 4-5 hours usually, mmmmmmm

The dehydrater I bought had like 4 trays, and I purchased another 4 additional trays at fleet farm too. I’ve tried the ground meat gun thingy for ground meat jerky but I prefer the whole muscle meat as in a bottom round roast.

Good luck, my daughter eats it so fast I never get much. Kinda sucks cause it is a bit of work to set up, make, and then clean everything up. But  “ooooh it’s so good”

Velvet only get about2-3 pineapple chunks a day, but, boy does she come running when she hears me shake the paper plate full of them and call her name
