Little miss Fiona is a 3 month old holland lop. She’s perfectly litter trained, doesn’t do her business anywhere else but her litter box. AND MY BED AND COUCH! It doesn’t make any sense to me. She’ll pee on my bed and my the back of my couch, but won’t pee or poop anywhere else in the house. She uses her litter box often. Am I doing something wrong? She isn’t fixed yet, I’m waiting until she’s old enough to get it done. I feel like she KNOWS it’s wrong, because if I walk in on her, she immediately stops, looks at me, and jumps off the bed/couch. I’m getting extremely discouraged with it all, and I don’t know what to do. Help?

This is typical rabbit behavior – she is marking – your couch and your bed smell the most like you. Even litter trained rabbits will do this. You are going to have to keep her off the couch and bed to prevent this. It may eventually stop once she ages and is altered but it won’t be right away.

She probably doesn’t really know it’s wrong – I don’t think that rabbits know right from wrong like humans do.

Well she’s allowed free roam of the house when I’m gone, so now I shut my room door while I’m out of the house. I feel bad for not letting her up, but it seems like it’s my only option…

Don’t feel bad – it is your only option. She is probably too young at this point to free roam anyway. Usually the best free roamers are older altered rabbits rather than the young rabbits. Also it is probably safer to have her contained while you are out of the house (safer for her and you).

I completely agree with Sarita’s suggestions. It will help to do this now because as she approaches 5-6 months some of her toileting behaviour might worsen. So her having a new routine of being contained in smaller area in your absence will help in the long run. Most rabbits find a quiet spot to snooze the day away when home alone anyway. Giving her a safe, quiet spot that’s just hers is a good thing.
