hello everyone! after a year and half of lurking and learning on this forum, The Rabbit and i have finally come out to say hi. The Rabbit is a grey Netherland Dwarf whose official name is “Terrine,” but she often goes by “RabbitRabbit” or “The Rabbit” or “Mabbit.”

Terrine came into my life unexpectedly, via a county fair in August of 2011. it was love at first sight, and i couldn’t bear to leave her behind. i’m not exactly sure how old she is (she was young when i got her, but not a baby anymore) but she was definitely born sometime in 2011. she was spayed in late February of 2012, which was just in time because she had started going WACKO-hormonal in mid-January.

she is very affectionate, playful, and outgoing. when someone new comes to visit, she usually greets the person with a sniff and a nose nudge. it doesn’t take long for her to warm up to strangers, especially if the strangers come bearing food. she loves to be petted and will snuggle in the crook of my arm for naps. she likes to play “tag” –  if i tap her on the bum, she will binky and run around, then wait for me to go to her and tap her again so she can binky and run some more. i also taught her to bonk noses with me for a treat, and to spin around for a treat. she only weighs a bit over two pounds, but she often tries to drag or topple items bigger than she is (litter box, laundry baskets, cardboard boxes…). she once fell backwards into her water dish because she was trying to drag her litter box with her teeth and lost her grip.

as for her Rabbitat, she lives in an XL dog crate with two levels and has free run of most of the family room when i am home in the evenings/on weekends. i would love to let her be completely free-roam, but her love of chewing wires and other things is too great.

here’s a little photo series of Terrine. the dark patch is because she is shedding; it is gone now and her little face is back to its normal grey.

Terrine has only been with me for a year and half, but i love her probably more than anything else. i’ve been enjoying getting to know her, and also learning about rabbits through this lovely forum. this is such a warm, supportive, and helpful community! both Terrine and i have benefited greatly from the advice and stories of people here – THANK YOU for sharing!

        ~pj

Thanks! Yes, the dark patch happens every time. It starts as a line across her nose, and as more fur falls out, the patch gets bigger. It’s never the same shape, but it’s usually fairly symmetrical.
