        Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if peeing purple urine is normal for rabbits? I just saw my bun do it, but he does not seem to be sick. If someone else has seen this happen to their rabbit and could tell me if this is cause for concern, that would be great.

Do you have a picture on hand? Bunny urine color does tend to vary, but if there’s any possibility that the urine could be blood-tinged, that would warrant a vet check-up.

I took a picture just now from my iPod, so the quality is pretty poor. I did a close up, so hopefully it’s not too bad. Purple Urine Picture

Hard to see that very well, but it appears to be on a rug, not in a litter pan. If it’s the rug, then it may have acted on the dye and made a purple stain.
If it’s that kind of purple in the litter, then I would be concerned since pee color can vary, but usually in an orange/red mode. Purple is a very deep shade of red and may indicate the presence of something a vet needs to see.

Have you been feeding him anything with deep purple or pink pigmant like beet greens or rainbow chard ?

Try putting water on whatever that is your bunny peed on and see what color it turns. To me it looks like it’s just that the fabric is wet
