My boy Ralph is a mixed breed rabbit and has abit of angora in him. He’s very fluffy and gets matted very easily. I have brought lots of difference combs and dematters. I was wondering if anyone has any tips?
It’s very hard to get the Matt’s soft enough to really be able to comb them away. I’ve heard of some people using animal conditioner type things on dogs and cats but wondered what was suitable for rabbits?

        Thanks

Bunnytowne and a couple of others used to groom long haired bunnies of theirs, so may have some tips for you. No, I wouldn’t use a commercial conditioning product. I do know that a daily combing/brushing makes a big difference in keeping down the matting.

This seems to be true in my experience although it may just be a myth, but Oat Hay daily (if your bunny likes it as much or more than Timothy) creates a smooth and shiny coat. Sammy has a wonderfully soft coat and she adores her oat hay, so it may help over time as well.

Thank you. I do groom everyday but he was looked after by someone else recently and they didn’t quite get it all out so a few Matt’s have built up!
Also now he has been bonded with his sister he doesn’t want to be groomed or spend anytime with me anymore so he’s being a tricky boy!

Here’s an article on grooming Angoras from the House Rabbit Society, if you haven’t read it already.
