Lulu LOVES food! She goes CRAZY for it! She also isn’t normally picky and will eat ANYTHING! Mocha is the picky one! But recently, not showing interest in her veggies.
I think this all started last night,
I went in to feed them their veggie. They were going nuts! Zooming around like crazy! I thought “Wow, they must be pretty hungry!” I get their veggies ready and set them on the floor but Lulu still was still going crazy and circling me! Mocha thought she was getting something that “he” wasn’t so he wouldn’t eat either. I thought they wanted me to give them a treat (Because they hadn’t got any all day) so I put my mommy face on and said “No treats tonight!”. Mocha finally settled down and starting mowing down on the veggies like normal but Lulu wouldn’t give up, not even sure she ate any veggies that night.

This morning was the same thing! Crazy zooming and overly excited. I gave them their veggies and Lulu wouldn’t eat again. Mocha started eating just fine as normal. Lulu would sort of sniff it but not eat. I left the room several times and coming back in to see if she had ate. Nope. Finally I put some veggies right in front of her on the opposite side of the room thinking there may be some sort of dominance thing going on. She started nibbling it so I was relived and left the room, not checking to see if she ate them all.

Tonight the same thing, crazy zooming etc. Put the veggies down and Lulu wouldn’t eat. Just looked at me with sad eyes and softly rested her chin on my leg wanting pets! I gave her a few but then stuck some veggies in her face so she would eat. She sniffed over the whole thing kind of nibbling it but then came back asking for pets. I did the same thing again but this time she started to eat. She ate the ends of the stems off of lettuce but then didn’t want any more and ran up into the cage to eat hay….. that is when I came on BB.

        Questions:

Is she just being picky? Should I wait until I get next weeks veggies and see if she will eat her favorites?

Could it be her teeth? Shes eating very hard hay treats and hay just fine.

Other sickness? She has been very grumpy and boxing mocha’s face. She does get into those weird moods though.

I am worried that she might not getting enough nutrition since they don’t get pellets!

Is she or Mocha shedding at the moment?

TimTim has been worrying me lately with his eating habits but he continues to eat hay. He’s gone into a crazy moult I think due in part to some stress. If she’s eating hay she probably instinctively knows what she needs…

Jersey: they just got done with one. They could still be shedding a little bit, but i haven’t noticed. I will just wait it out and see if she start eating veggies within a few days.

Ah ok. I sometimes wonder if they get a bit hormonal around shedding time…

I wouldn’t worry too much about lack of nutrition at this stage. Her body would have what it needs in store.

The second thing I would guess at is teeth trouble but as you say, she is eating hay. Still, something to keep in mind if she continues to refuse some foods. I hops she comes good soon.

Third thing I’d guess at is someone ELSE has been sneaking them treats and Lulu is expecting that.

my thought was teath problems but it seems strange since shes eating hay.

hmmm…. maybe my dad has been sneaking them some treats…. haha jk. no one really pays attention to them except for me. :p

Someone recently had a bun that was eating hay but not greens and it turned out to be a minor tooth issue. Can’t remember who it was.

Actually… when I think about it, they probably do use incisors more when eating salads whereas with hay, they can pull the long thin strands straight back to the molars. Some of mine pull everything back to the molars though, no matter how big the food lol.

I was wondering how much of her other food she’s been eating, like the hay and pellets. I would watch the levels of those carefully, as well as try to monitor poop output. You know us – if there’s ever any doubt check with a vet. But if she ingested some fur due to the shed, she may just have some in her tummy, so look for strings of pearls in her poo also.

Zoomies usually don’t happen in any kind of discomfort or illness. Also, once a bunny is fed I need to remember and remind my family that a begging behavior doesn’t always mean treats. Often it’s a well fed bunny who wants play time, pets, or just attention. When she goes to you for pets, give her a belly massage if she’ll let you. It will make her happy and start to move along any digestion, so watch for a good poo session after that. If she has one, you’re probably OK.

Jersey: I wondered about incisors too. but, just yesterday she tore apart a willow ball just fine.
just gave veggies and she seemed very interested! sniffed them over, kind of nibbled on them. she came over by me for a long pet the ran over Nd started munching on a peice of lettuce! She finished it and then sort of tromped over to the litter box to eat some hay…

Pam: My rabbits do not get pellets so that worries me that she only is getting hay.

monitoring poops is hard with a bonded pair… I could seperate them but I hate to do that!

As for the vet. I would be thinking about it more seriously but since we moved there are no rabbit savvy vets. They will treat them, and even spay and neuter them. But they do not really specailize in them. It makes me scared to go from a vet so good with rabbits, to one who isnt very good. Someone from the WHRS uses her and likes her, but still makes me nervous. i was thinking about going to her with the buns to check her out. So maybe now is the time ( now to talk my Mom into it!)

I wonder if i should wait a little longer to see i new veggies make a difference.

oh! another thing! she has been extremely jumpy lately! not sure if that means anything!

Is this a new batch of veggies? Mine will suddenly turn their nose up if I get a “bad” bag or bunch or whatever. It’s like it isn’t as sweet or something. Have you tried something different to see if she will eat that? Oh wait, looks like you’re considering that. I guess just get some new stuff and see if that is better.

LBJ: Yes I thought about that. We don’t go to get more veggies for a day or two yet though….. Maybe I could grab something on the way home from church tomorrow.

Maybe to do with getting used to the new house? How long have you been in it now? A month?
Her hearing is likely better then Mocha’s with him being a lop. So she might react to things more then him.

Jersey. Shes been living here about 2 months now. Her hearing is DEFIANTLY better then Mocha’s. He can barely hear ANYTHING! I think he can hear high pitch, but that’s pretty much it. It makes him rely on Lulu a lot. He watches her to see her movements and then reacts. I’m glad he has her or I think he wouldn’t know a lot of things that are going on!

Good news! My baby is back! She ate last nights dinner and this mornings veggies! I am so happy! I have no idea why she all of the sudden stopped like that… Maybe she thought she only needed the hay for awhile!? Idk. She sure does like that hay though! She ran right over when I refilled it last night!
