Never again will I ever get a bunny at a pet store. My poor baby jack was happy one day and then the next day he is dying! He is dribbling out pee constantly and breathing very faint. He was just at the vet last week because I was concerned he was losing weight but he was still eating and acting normally and the vet was like whatever he is ok as long as he eats and poops still. And now he is dying! I’m up at 5 in the morning just keeping him company while he gets comfortable to leave me I am so heartbroken! Just last night he jumped on the couch and took a nap next to me and he even stayed at our feet the other day. He was so attached as was I and now he is dying. I’m so devastated

I wish there was something I could do for you…. It must be breaking your heart… I am so sorry… Is Sally alright, how is she doing?

Sally is doing ok but I’m so worried how she react when Jack dies because she is much more shy and only comes out when he does. I hope she doesn’t miss him he didn’t say anything was wrong with him feeling boney. Just said its normal for growing bunnies to be a little boney. I just know he will be gone in a couple of hours
Sally is going to be so lonely. She has bonded more to Jack than to her human companions so I don’t know if me giving her extra attention will make her stress or if her being lonely will make her stress…

I’m sorry, I wish I could give you and little Sally a hug… She’ll be ok, you will just need to give her lots of attention as she will mourn with you. Now is not the time to worry about a future rabbit, maybe you will maybe you won’t right now you need to think about you and Sally….

I’m so sorry! I know how much it hurts, I too have nursed a dying young bunny in my arms. Private message me if you need too, hugs and vibes for you and Sally.

I’m so sorry. I’m thankful that he is at least out of any pain or suffering he may have been in, and I’m thankful you were able to comfort him in his last hours. He was a special guy, very lucky to have had you love him while he was here,

Sally should hopefully be okay, but if you notice anything at all, please get her into the vet ASAP for (possibly) a full blood panel and fecal test.

I’m so sorry – he was lucky to have you in his short life.

Definitely have a fecal done on Sally if you have not already to test for coccidia.

Sally might be a little sad and confused for a bit, but she will adjust and be happy with you as her human companion. Just make sure to give her extra cuddles.

After a couple hours of him missing she started darting around her cage like super fast and running into things! I was so afraid she was going to hurt herself. I went over there and was stroking her head and trying to assess what just happened. She was like panting and is still breathing a little heavily hours later but I see lots of poops still but they are kinda sporadic in diff sizes. She is still eating just heavily breathing. Is this just stress? Hopefully tomorrow she will be willing to run around and play but she seems…afraid now.

So sorry for your loss I can only imagine how hard that must be for you. Just remember, he is no longer suffering.
I’m concerned that you have had two bunnies pass away within months of each other… :-/ Could they possibly be getting into something in your house? Maybe they both got into something toxic. Keep an eye out for Sally to make sure! What exactly were you feeding both of them? Not accusing you at all, just hoping you can figure out what happened so that nothing happens to Sally. Of course, it could be coincidental that they both passed so quickly, but its worth thinking about so that Sally stays healthy too.

That’s why I’m so scared for Sally. There is no way they could’ve gotten into anything. But I agree a new vet is def in order considering this is twice now they have just kinda shrugged me off! I feed them zupreem Timothy pellets and oxbow Timothy and alfalfa hay.. I’m starting to wean Sally off the alfalfa now though. Just bought the last bag a few days ago. Jack ate veggies as well but very little and Sally won’t even touch veggies idk why though. So their diets were the same minus the fact that Sally won’t eat veggies. I’m starting to get paranoid there is something in the air of my home or in the floors that they are inhaling now or something and I’m getting paranoid for my own health now!
Sally seems to be doing just fine. She doesn’t even seem to notice he’s missing and has actually started making the initiative to bond with us now. Not to mention Sally is doing very well with her litterbox! She has only peed outside of it ONCE since Jack died! I’m so proud of her

I am so sorry for your loss. 6 years ago I experienced the same thing you experienced. I got a rabbit from a pet shop and 3 days later it died. The pet store told me to feed it mother oats because when the sold me the rabbit it was sick. I spoke to my vet when it happened and she said something had to be wrong with the rabbit. I know what your going through and I never ever will purchase a rabbit from a pet store. Maybe someday you will get another rabbit if the right one comes along. You will know when it is the right one.

I’m so sorry. I agree that a new vet would be helpful for Sally. If you need to find one, check the yellow pages under Exotics, and http://www.rabbit.org – the House Rabbit Society’s website for a vet search, or Petfinder.com for shelters in your area that can recommend a local rabbit specialist.

Many bunnies are born with an illness that is detectible until it’s too late, but a rabbit savvy vet often can make a crucial difference.

Well I’ve tried introducing romaine, parsley, and kale but she hasn’t shown interest. So now I’m just going to hold off until she is a little older… If she decides she doesn’t like veggies will that hurt her?

It won’t hurt her whilst she is still young but when she is older some greens are essential. Have you tried some sweet basil ?

I wouldn’t worry about Sally not agreeing to eat veggies yet. My bun refused when he was little too. I just kept poking him in the side of the mouth with a piece of cilantro until he was so annoyed he tried throwing it on the ground and ending up tasting it by accident! HA!

It’s always been hard to get my brats to try new things though! So just keep trying with her. I’m sure she’ll find something she likes and then realize she wants to try more new things! That’s how it is with my three.

I mean c’mon! But yeah, I’ve learned my lesson…never agan On a brighter note, Sally has been AMAZING!!! She uses her litter box religiously. She only leaves a poop here and there in her cage… I find about 4 or 5 pebbles every morning when I clean her box and I’m sure it’s just from her kicking it out when she hops out of the box. I basically just open the cage when I’m home and she can come and go as she pleases because she is just that well! I have YET to find even ONE POOP on my floor! AND I finally found a great rabbit savvy vet! It’s an hour and half away but I’d rather drive that distance to get her spayed than go to an inexperienced vet. We have plans for her for early April (that’s when she is around 6 months) )
