We are looking into getting another bun. I finally convinced hubby that a male bun is more relaxed and females can be territorial….not to mention males are cheaper to get fixed…

He has fallen in love with the hotot breed…and I know rexes tend to have hock issues and I read (I think on here) that Holland lops are prone to Molar spurs…

If any of you have hotots, do you know if they have any health issues that may need special care or considerations?

Also, I was wondering…Hotots look a bit to me like Nethie Dwarfs….Are they related?

          Yes, the dwarf hotots are.

I don’t know of any specific health issues in relation to the breed other then what you’d expect with other dwarf breeds -teeth.
But I also don’t know much about the breed so… :p

There is a sort of mega colon condition that effects predominately dark eyed white rabbits that also have some coloured marks in their coat. It’s not that common though.

I’ve never heard of any condition specific to hotots. In fact, I met one yesterday who was getting her nails trimmed at my vet and she looked very healthy and pretty.

I think with the basic attention to vet care, good diet and habitats, and noting any changes early on as in eating, pooping or behavior changes, you will have a happy healthy bunny for years to come. Go for it!

P.S. One more thought: you may want to rescue one from a shelter and ask if he’s been examined by a vet there first, so you can know if he’s healthy. Also, if you are willing to not get a baby, and shelter will have already neutered him, and you could bring your bunny to meet him on a mini-date first. I tend to like mutts over purebred animals because often a stronger, healthier gene has been introduced to a winnowed pure bred line. What isn’t good for show is often much better for a pet.

Definitely can be prone to dental problems – all these small smushy faced breeds are.

He has been to the vet and he has some allergies…sneezy so he’s not for show. The lady is getting out of Rabbitry…but also has Flemish Giants…
She is giving us drops from the vet, a bag of the food she has been feeding him and a cage (which is a wire bottom…which we are gonna use for about a week and put mats and stuff in there for him and then build him his own area)
Has anyone heard of Blue Seal Bunny 16? She said that is the food she feeds him

Tried to convince him to get a sheltar bun but want to know what in the lineage….I don’t really understand it…but that’s okay….it’s “his” bun..

I’ve been calling him Hottie….but maybe he could be Sneezy and Bud could be Thumpy.,…lol Now I just need 5 more buns and they can be the seven dwarfs buns….
