I have a buck and a doe. The buck (shamus) was neutered a couple of weeks ago but I haven’t had my doe (peach) spayed yet because I wanted her to grow a bit before I had her done because she is pretty small. She is coming up on 15 weeks old now and today for the first time when I was about to give them their craisin the started humping Shamus.

Is she old enough to be spayed or should I wait longer?

Oh my. With him only being neutered 2 weeks ago, be careful! Sperm can still be viable for a month or more, so she could still get pregnant. I would separate them until after she is spayed, or until more than a month has passed since his neuter.

Most vets recommend at about 6 months of age, however my girl that I’ve just adopted was speyed last week and she’s only 4 months old, however this was because there was a risk she could have been pregnant as she was in with her two siblings originally believed to be females but both turned out to be boys.
It’s best to speak to your vet as indidual vets have different policies. They may also give a guide on how much they like them to weigh so you can check her weight to see if she’s big enough.

I know my vet was hoping to wait until she was a little bit bigger — about 5 months so she could gain as much as possible before the procedure. We waited until about 4 1/2 and my girl was about 4.5 lbs. She went through the procedure great and bounced back relatively quickly I would say.

I would just check with your vet and get their opinion about if you should wait or do it soon also.

If possible, I would wait a little longer until she is about 6 mos. As others have said, spaying earlier is possible but this is a case by case situation…the best way is to ask your vet when he/she thinks that Peach is ready to be spayed. Also, I’d like to echo Monkeybun’s warning to not put Peaches and Shamus together quite yet, since Shamus could still have viable sperm up to a month after his neuter.
