I decided to do a trial run with Finn living in an xpen instead of a cage. The cage in front of the hedgehog cage was a hassle, and I felt badly with him being cooped up while I was at school.

        (the set up)

The first night didn’t go so well. He figured out that if he rattled the bars enough he could pull the pen loose from the edge and escape. The next day I moved the pen so he could have access to the porch while I was gone. I’ve been doing this for a couple of days, but this time when I came home either him or the cats had moved the pen so he could wiggle his way through and have access to the house. I found him our bedroom (a no-no zone), flopped out behind a chair.

        Untitled

(The sheet is to deter him from chewing the bars to move the pen. You can see the sliver of open porch door, and the x-pen leading out)

Tonight we went out for dinner. I put Finn in his pen, gave him his salad and pellets, and we went on our way. We came home to him flopped out OUTSIDE of his pen. The corners were totally intact. I’m pretty sure the brat jumped it. AND he thumped when we tried to put him back for the evening.

We’ll see what tomorrow morning brings. Hopefully not a lot of chewed cords

That is to funny. Rabbits are very clever. The other night I left sunshine out for play time and was in the door way to another room i was busy talking and not paying attention she came in to the room she isn’t allowed in and did a big thump (look at me mom I am doing what I am suppose to be doing) rabbits crack me up. Your rabbit is so adorable.

why don’t you try to close the x-pen into a full circle with dog leash clips instead of connecting it to things?
            just wondering

Lily’s momma, it gives him more room and gives me access to the storage under the hedgehog’s cage.

I found him behind the tv this morning. Sigh.

I think he can jump it. I have to use a 4 foot or higher gate for Bunjamin. Its amazing how they are little houdinis.

I suggest a taller xpen could help with all your problems. Then resell the shorter pen if you want.

Thanks flash! I used the pen to block off the bathroom/bedroom and he never tried to jump it, so this behavior is odd to me. The boyfriend suggested that it may be the blue sheet he is jumping over since he seems baffled by the rest of the pen. Seeing as we woke up to an epic cat and rabbit chase on our faces this morning I’m going to remove the blue sheet and see if he’ll stay in his darn pen!!

Lol!! It’s like reading about Bosse when we’re visiting at home… He does the exact same thing, he will drag the pen to get it loose, he will rattle the pen and he even chewed through the plastic covering the metal in the pen. I moved him and gave him more room, and only closed the pen at night, but he would still rattle the pen. After I moved him, he was in the “living room” section of my room, and he was on this big carpet. One night when I was sleeping I woke up from bunny kisses on my face. He had dragged the pen away, and WALKED OVER TO ME ON THE SLIPPERY HARDWOOD FLOORING! He has never ever done that befor, lol. I also had to put a sheet over the pen where he would rattle it.. He never jumped it thoug

Svandis it sounds like we’re owned by a couple of terrors!!!

I removed the sheet and we haven’t had any problems since! It seems since that part isn’t a solid anymore he doesn’t know he can jump it. I also wedged it tightly between the bookshelf and the drawers and now he can rattle to his heart’s content without getting loose.

Now…. How to keep they hay off of my carpet?

In the words of Elmer Fudd – they’re waskly wabbits! Buckley escaped twice this week from his cage, no idea how?????
