Well,Seren had a few mushy poops so I took in a sample (it went away but came back again). The vet says she has coccidia. He gave me Albon which I’m suppose to give her twice a day for ten days. The vet said it should take care it and that his rabbit had to be on it awhile ago and did really well with it.The good thing is she is drinking, eating, acting like herself and most of her poop is normal.I would like to here from others who have had to deal with this.Should I have her retested after the ten days? Any tips on giving meds? I’m hoping she’ll do ok.

If she was my bun, I would have her retested. What did the vet say?

To give meds, I sit my buns on a towel on the table and give meds and then a tasty treat right after.

I would want to have her retested, but some vets will just wait and see if symptoms return. The problem with doing this is that once symptoms return, you’re pretty much starting over again with medication. It would be more beneficial to do a couple rounds of meds back to back and eradicate the problem.

I’ve never heard of rabbits getting coccidia before… Only cats and dogs, do this is good to know!
Is there anything else they can get like campylobacter or giardia? (I work in a rescue centre with the dogs and these are fairly commonplace)

Thanks everyone for responding The vet said that 10 days of Albon would get rid of it but I will probably get her retested just to make sure. I never even thought about doing two rounds of meds,I’ll check and see if he would do that. As for giardia, I was told rabbits can get it but campylobacter I’m not sure.
