Our poor old gerbil girl Hazel passed away last night. She was 3 years and 3 months old. It wasn’t unexpected as she had not been acting quite herself lately. She seems to have gone peacefully in her sleep, cuddling with her sister, Foxglove.

Goodbye sweet girl, we miss you.

            Thank you, Sarita.

So far her sister is doing okay, she doesn’t seem to be distraught by all this. Hopefully it will stay that way.

What a sweet little thing! How long do they typically live for?

                      RIP Little Hazel

Thank you, everybody, we appreciate your kind words.

jerseygirl: Their life expectancy is around 4 years. So she was a senior I guess, but I hoped they would both make it to 4.

We got Foxglove first, but she totally shut down the first two days we had her at home because she was alone, so we went back and got Hazel. Foxglove literally gave her a big hug when they were reunited and perked right back up.

We’re hoping she won’t go back into that depression now that Hazel’s gone. So far she seems to be doing well.

That second one is such a beautiful photo. My condolences.
