Hi guys, I just wanted to get some opinions. We adopted Java about 3 weeks ago, and we noticed him sneezing. He was never having sneezing fits, and the most he would sneeze was maybe 5 times in a minute, and then that would be it. And 5 times was still the most, it was usually up to 5 times over the course of the entire day. It was never enough to cause concern, but enough for us to notice and wonder “hey is that more sneezing than normal?”

We just went to the vet 2 nights ago. She did a full exam of everything, and we informed her of the sneezing. She’s a great vet (Dr. Harvey, if anyone knows), and she told us that he was 100% A-okay. No problems and he was looking VERY healthy.

Anyways, about 45 min ago I woke up because I heard him having a sneezing fit. It was about 5 sneezes all in a row, and then another sneeze about 3 seconds later. After that, he was fine. I got up to check on him, and he stretched and greeted me. I just changed his litter box and gave him fresh hay, which made him sneeze 2 more times. I want to assume the last two were from hay dust because he tends to sneeze once or twice when he shoves his face into his hay saver. And I did add a lot of the bottom hay that’s small and dusty. I just added it right to his box for comfort, but he smelled it and sneezed the two times (not in a row).

Any thoughts? I’m not really concerned much because we just went to the vet and got a fully clean health report. It’s just that sneezing isn’t bad, but sneezing fits are to be of concern. I’m just monitoring him to see if he has another one. But I wanted to post and get some opinions.

        Thanks!

I know of some rabbits that are irratated by hay dust. I believe you can order dust extracted hay online, so that may help him.

            Is that the problem, though?

When he had the actual sneezing fit, he was just sleeping. And he sleeps away from his box (so no hay around him except some stray pieces that get around his pen).

Nothing at all. I checked out his nose and didn’t see any residue or discharge. He’s been fine so far and is just sleeping – no more sneezes.

I am thinking it just makes him sneeze, if he is around it , or if t is stick to

my current bunny sneezes occasionally, no big deal. my last bunny once got into these sneezing fits and, er, bunny snots came out of her nose. that required a visit to the vet and meds.

i would keep a close eye on him just in case. maybe you can call your vet without actually having to go in again so soon?

That’s what I’m going to do. If anymore fits happen, I’m going to call and see if I can just get some advice or something. Any discharge and we’ll be in the office lol.
