My bunnies eat any rubber/foam in sight — remote control buttons, yoga mats, you name it. They love the stuff! I’ve seen people use baby playmats, like the ones shaped like puzzle pieces, for their bunnies. Does anyone know if bunnies tend to chew these up? I actually don’t mind the chewing – I’m more concerned about what the foam will do to their digestive systems. Thanks!

Yup, I can pretty much guarantee that a rubber chewer will chew these. I tried these in Bindi’s condo and he was pulling up the tab pieces that connect the mats and chewing on them so I had to take them out. Stuff like that can cause a blockage so I would avoid it.

Some people have used the mats (or other types of rubber flooring) underneath a piece of linoleum with success. The rubber provides some cushion, while the lino keeps it intact and is easily wiped down. So that’s another option for you. Just by itself, it does sound like he would chew it up.

i tucked a blanket around the edges of the play mat and callie only pulled the blanket up once to find the foam. luckily all the pieces were there, so none were eaten. since then she hasn’t bothered. i know if she was right on the mats though they’d be destroyed!

My bun has his cage ontop of a puzzle play mat, and he has never showed any interest in chewing it. He is a chewer and likes to dig up the carpet, eat buttons off of the remote etc, but he has never chewed the play mat for some reason.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think we’ll just stick to the low-pile carpet we’re using now. I was just exploring options that might be easier to clean, but perhaps I’m just being lazy!
