On another rabbit forum, someone made a comment that a rabbits cage can be too big. They said a rabbit feels better in smaller places since in the wild they live in warrens in the ground. Is there any truth to this? My rabbits have their own room with a giant 10 feet long by 3 feet wide x-pen. I combined two x-pens to give them lots of space to play around in while I am at work. Inside their x-pen then have a little house, but they never really use it. They also get free reign of the room while I am home.

Is this too much space? Is there such a thing as too much space? I wanted to eventually let them always have free reign of their room… but is this too much?

I think that just so long as your rabbits have a safe place to hide no cage is too big. I know plenty of people whose rabbits are freerange 24/7 and all of their rabbits are happy and healthy.

The bigger the better i say! For their little house, is it big enough for them both to fit comfortably and have more then one entrance? If not thats why they arent using it. I would keep their space as it is! It sounds great! Have you ever though of getting a cottontail cottage or maze havem from this website? My bunnies LOVE their cottontail cottage!

I am dying to get them a cottontail cottage!! The is the next thing on my list of toys to get them I just ordered them a grass mat to dig on and a tunnel to play in, so the cottage is next Their house is big enough for them to fit in, they just dont seem interested… Or maybe they sleep in it when i’m not around. Sometimes they bury themselves inside a fleece blanket thats inside their enclosure, but they mostly just cuddle with each other.

There is no such thing as ‘too big!’ As long as the buns have places to hide, it should be fine

My bun is completely free range, but has a condo to go in and out of as she wishes.

Huh I’ve never heard of that but i guess its possible. Your should have a hidey house and as mocha200 said cotentail cottages are a great option! (:

My boys have a 4X4′ x-pen that is open all the time, and they free-range in their own rabbit room. I have a cottontail cottage and a tunnel that they use all the time seperately, but they spend the majority of their time smushed together in the middle of the floor spooning They’re definitely not concerned with “open spaces”.
