Can someone tell me if my bun’s behaviour is normal, he’s 5 months old and I’ve had him for 2 months now, and in all that time he has never laid down! He doesn’t stretch out and he doesn’t “flop”.  He always sits in the meatloaf position, mainly with his paws out to the front but very occasionally he’ll sit in this position but with his paws tucked under him (he looks just like a fat hen when he does this!).  Is he relaxed or not?

He’s relatively friendly, apart from not liking being touched, he runs around like a lunatic and does lot of jumpy things and that shivery thing, so, to me, he appears to be happy. Do some rabbits just not “flop”? As far as I am aware I have never seen him sleep either (although I’m sure he does as I’ve read they can sleep with their eyes open).

Am I just being a neurotic bun mum? Is he happy?

(PS for Christmas he bought me “Rabbits For Dummies!” is he trying to tell me something? Lol x

Sounds relaxed to me. Some rabbits never flop but it doesn’t mean they are unhappy. Many times it may take quite a while too for bunny to feel comfortable enough to flop or stretch out. I really don’t think you need to worry :~) Meatloafing is good!

He sounds very happy! One of our rabbits would rarely flop (maybe once or twice) when he was at the shelter, but now he flops frequently. Meatloafing is good and absolutely adorable <3

Awww, he sounds like quite a happy little bun bun! My girl was VERY skittish when we brought her home and never did any of these things but as she got more comfortable with us (it took a good three-four months) and with lots of love she is the bun who is ALWAYS flopping!

Also, that jumpy shivery thing you were referring to is called a Binky! And when a bunny binkies it means he’s extremely ecstatic and happy so congrats to you! You definitely do not have an unhappy bun bun! My buns get so excited and full of binkies they’ll literally binky right into things.

He sounds like he prefers to be a Sphinx, but he has excellent taste in literature, so I think he is just a proud, happy guy, Master of all he surveys. Enjoy him!

Yup, sounds like a happy guy . My first bunny never flopped, so I was pretty surprised to see it for the first time when I got my second bunny, haha.

                    Hehe

Bunnies for Dummies is actually a very good resource! I bought it when I was doing research on bunnies, and it helped me out a lot!

Thank you so much for all your replies, he’s a gorgeous little bun without a malicious bone in his body that wouldn’t say boo to a goose, my husband keeps telling me he’s lonely or depressed because he spends a lot of time just sitting there, neither of us have owned a bun before so I’m relying on this wonderful website tapping into your years of knowledge and experience and of course my great Bunnies for Dummies book!

Thank you, but i think I’m still going to be neurotic worrying that he’s happy! x
