        Hello.
I have been feeding my rabbit Orchard Grass Hay for a while now, but I want to switch to Timothy Hay now. Is it okay to be feeding timothy to my bunny immediately? Or do I have to mix orchard with timothy?
        Thank you

It’s not really like switching pellets, which is a gradual change over. That said, I would still introduce the Timothy hay into the same hay bin along with the Orchard Grass. Watch to see if he tries it, eats it slowly, or gobbles it up. If he seems to go for it all first over the Orchard, feel free to switch right away. Otherwise, let him eat what he likes and see whether he wants the Timothy. My bunny would often leave the Timothy, but once tasting Oat, she never looked back she loved it so much.

Foo gets the two mixed together. She loves orchard grass but the petsmart around is always seems to be out of it, so we go back and forth. Havent seen any bad effects, except for some bun noses beimg turned up at timothy hay bc orchard is the.preference.

Just goes to show you how different bunnies are. My bunny Jack preferred Orchard, would only nibble on Timothy, and Vivian prefers Timothy, and will only nibble, if she HAS to, on Orchard.   Go figure!

Let us know how your bunny takes to Timothy!

BB, I feel your pain! My buns went from Alfalfa to Timothy. Which they ate! But we figured out my BF was allergic to the hay so we switched to Orchard Grass. One day, we had to grab a bag of Timothy and what do you know. They went on Bunny Strike and REFUSED to eat any of it!

I would take care to make sure they’re eating it though. My buns had me a little worried when I realized the hay wasn’t being eaten.. At all. LOL.

I sometimes have no choice but to switch from Oxbow Orchard to Timothy or vice versa when my pet store runs out. I tend to feed a mix of both but sometimes I just stick to one depending on the quality of the hay. If one seems really brown and too crummy/dusty, I will feed just the one type until the pet store gets in a new shipment. My guys like both but will sometimes be fussy when I switch.

He loves the orchard, so I bought a whole bale of it from a feed store, lol. I’m taking back the timothy because he doesn’t seem to like it as much.
Thank you for all the replies!
