I have noticed for a few days now my female sunshine has been pooping outside the litterbox. It isn’t a whole lot. I would say about 7-8 . I was wondering is this a cause for concern? She has never done this in the 2 1/2 years I have had her. thanks

Is she peeing OK? I would clean her litter pan, put some of the poos back into it and see if she uses it again. If not, keep an eye on her movements. Does she seem to have any trouble getting in and out of it?

I often call the unexpected appearance of a stray pile of poos “Protest Poops” because they are a non-verbal hint to you that she doesn’t like something. Could mean ‘clean up’, or if you rearranged something or introduced a new thing into her space she may disapprove. If it doesn’t seem to change back for the better, a visit to the vet might be necessary in a few days.

everything seems normal. I clean her litterbox once a day and nothing out of the ordinary is new in her cage. I did forget to mention this poops aren’t anywhere near her litterbox they are in another corner opposite of the litterbox. She can get in to her litterbox perfectly fine.

Both my buns do this on occasion. I wouldn’t worry unless it is accompanied by other behavioral changes.

Olivia will do this if there is hay in another area of the condo. She often drags hay around and it’s like she poops to mark the area. Once she made a full circle around the hay. They are so silly.

I find “stray” poops all over the place, especially in the morning. With 3 buns (who have run of the room) it adds up. I think sometimes it’s just “stragglers” that follow them out of their litter pans. The use the litter pans for sure, but a few on the run seem to be the norm too.
