My bunny Lana a 9 week old sable point holland lop loves to chew
Her coroplast at night and keep us up! I’m worried about her digesting it. I’ve tried spraying
Vinegar to get her to stop and it used to stop her but now she keeps chewing and I’m worried about
Her digesting that as well! it’s gotten so bad I had to put her in her carrying
Case the other night and I can’t leave her alone at all. I had it along the bottom flooring and about
3 inches around to keep her hay inside for easy clean up. Any suggestions on how I can stop her
and also keep her cage clean too?! I just made this NIC cage and I’m so sad she keeps chewing it.
        Help please?!

Well, there’s always the option of removing it Try something else on the floor, it could help. I understand hte desire for easier hay clean up too, but I’d rather spend more time cleaning up hay htan have a bun ingesting plastic.

Can it go further out from the cage so she cannot reach it at all?

Well thanks for helping mister “Im going to delete your post”

Anyways. Her cage is 3 levels and it was kind of expensive getting
all that coroplast so I was hoping someone knew of something I could put on top
so it wouldn’t go to waste but Im at my wits end, I can’t take all this chewing!
                Thanks for those that replied

Sarita is a forum leader and if there was a similar post I can see why she would delete it. Most of the people here on binkybunny will check all of the forum sections for new posts, so it will be seen either way

I would suggest putting fleece over the coroplast and just secure it with some pins or anything like that. When it gets dirty, you can just put it in the washer, and you could keep a second pair of fleece for when the other set is in the wash. My bun is on fleece on his second floor and he loves it. On one of the floors you could put a pair of tiles so that she has a place to cool off, seing that fleece can get a bit warm.

Also, does she use a litter box? If she does, you won’t have to bee too concerned about the cage/fleece getting dirty, as most would go in the litter box.

I understand I was just kidding.
She does have fleece but the sides that is 3 inches up to keep everything in is what she has been chewing. Im worried if I cut those off she will pull it up the bottom and chew that up too. She does have a litter box but she sometimes poops outside of it. I don’t want the hay to get everywhere either :/

I was thinking of just pulling the fleece up over the edges maybe, and secure it there? I get the worry over the hay. I just put it in his litterbox, and ofc it will get a bit messy sometimes, but maybe you could have plastic sheet under the litterbox, or under wherever you keep her hay? Like a doggy mat? I don’t know what it’s called. I’m sure others on here will have better ideas

My only suggestion is to fold the sides back down flat and set the cage on top of it.  Then your bunny can’t pull it up if the edge is outside the wire part.  To contain the hay mess, either put the bulk of the hay into a hay rack or in the litter pan.  Or you could use wood boards or plexiglass around the outside to keep it inside.  For your levels, I’m not sure what you could do because if you take the walls/sides off, the flat part will sit inside the wire cage part.  Have you tried giving your bunny something wood inside to chew? It sucks when you’ve put money into a homemade cage and have to turn around and modify it right away, but you may have to consider other flooring options, and with a chewer, you have to be careful what materials you use.  What we did for my bun is made a plywood floor for the base of the cage and the level, then I bought a piece of scrap/remnant linoleum and stapled it over the plywood, wrapping the edges underneath and then we used small wood trim pieces on top of the linoleum around the edges of the base and level to contain the mess as well as provide a little ledge to nibble on and to protect the wrapped linoleum.  I just sweep up the stray poos and pieces of hay every morning with a little hand broom and dustpan and I use a shop vac once a week to thoroughly clean the cage.  I have a C&C cube cage as well.

There is always trial and error when it comes to cage construction. Now you know that having coroplast within reach may not be a good idea, so some modifications are going to be necessary to ensure her health. When it comes time to replace the coroplast, you can plan it larger.

It is up to the Forum Leaders’ discretion to modify or delete posts. If you cross post a topic (the same or similar topics in two sections) one will be deleted. It is too confusing to keep track of two threads and we don’t want members to waste their time replying twice, not realizing they already did in another section.

I tried putting some thicker fleece around the coroplast today and its kind of working she still tugs on it a little bit so I’m just hoping she doesn’t rip through it this weekend since I’m leaving for two days. When I come back I think I’m going to cut off the sides and try wood. Thanks everyone!

She does have a lot of toys but she chooses to chew on the coroplast.
