A few days ago Iposting about Remi’s gas problems and pain, I was happy since  in the last 2 days it seemed like she was doing a lot better, but today she came down with stasis again.
This mornig we found Remi not being able to poop, and not eating. She seemed like she was trying really hard to poop but nothing would come out. We gave her some belly massages and some meloxicam in order to help her, but after a few hours it was obvious that she wasn’t getting any better, so we took her to the vet. When we got there, she pooped a little ball with some blood, the vet immediately gave her some antibiotics and injected some fluids into her. The vet was not sure what was going on, so she decided to keep her for a few days. Sadly, his is not the first time the vet finds blood in Remi anus and stool.  none of the 3 vets we have seen has an answer for this. I’m really worry about her, I’m not sure what to do anymore. The vets don’t seem to know what’s causing Remi’s constant gas and bleeding  and I can’t find an answer either.

So I came here to see if someone has been in this situation, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I feel so depressed now, and I’m not getting any support from my family since they don’t seem to understand why I’m spending so much money on a rabbit. I tell them that Remi is not just a rabbit, she is my friend, so I want to do everything I can to help her. *I know you guys understand this*

Oh how scary for you! Sending many {{{vibes}}} for Remi.

          What antibiotic did they give?

Have any of the vets done tests on her poo?

I’m not sure what antibiotics the vet gave her, I was just freaking out at that moment that I can’t remember right now. *I trust my vet since they only do exotics in her clinic*

The vet has done 2 types of poop test, a cecotropes test and one to check her other poops. They didn’t find anything wrong in them (no bacterial infection, no parasites) , they were normal.

Thank you very much for the support. Both Remi and mommy need it

Does the vet think the blood was from the anus because she strained or from somewhere in her gi tract?

I’m just throwing out possibilities here… It could be she has a source of pain somewhere triggering her stasis episodes. Like along her spine, or some dental pain. Or stomach ulcer.

They would need to do diagnostic tests to rule things out. I’m sorry, I don’t recall if you’ve already said this has been done in your other thread.

At first the vet thought that it could be warts along the anus, but that soon changed since she didn’t see any. Right now she is thinking that it might be due to straining. The 2 times we have seen blood has been while she is trying to poop really hard, but is unable to do so. I’m leaning towards straining, since all her blood test and x-rays haven’t shown anything else. When I took Remi to the vet last week (because of her gas) she did mentioned that it’s possible that she may have some spinal problem since the vet found some old fur around the tail that is normally removed while they groom themselves. But the vet hasn’t been unable to confirm this.

I imagine a bleed there would be fresh looking blood.

Is what she passes super hard?

You might want to discuss with your vet about trying a different pain med if she requires something regularly. Something gentler on the stomach.

Yes the blood had come with the poop, so it was really fresh. The poop didn’t seem hard, but I still wonder why she would be straining in the first place.

I will definitely try to get her something long run, she has been getting meloxicam, but it has only been sporadically so we didn’t nee to change it but now that she is having frequent problems I wonder if we need something milder than meloxicam.

The problem with some of the tests is you can get false negatives. Both with fecal and blood tests.

I’m not certain other then X-ray what can be done… Sonogram perhaps? I believe there is a physical test vets can do also, to test for muscle weakness.

                          Regarding pain management, 2 others I can think of off hand is rimadyl and tramadol. That is, if she’s needing something daily. Ideally of course, they can determine the cause of the trouble and not have to use pain meds if possible. {{{Remi}}}

I’m so sorry Remi is still having problems.

When my Stormy was having blood in his stool, my vet suspected an ulcer. Was there blood in the actual poo (which would have shown on the fecal test) or just blood surrounding the poo? I think with an ulcer, the blood is actually in the poo.

Is there another rabbit vet you can go to for diagnosis?

She just turned 2 on September, and she was spayed when she was 6 month old. I really hope is not cancer or something like that.

No the blood wasn’t in the actual poop, it came out with a small poop. It almost seems like she is trying to poop and the poop can’t come out. I’m thinking the blood is the result of a lot of straining, or something. The blood was pretty fresh too (redish, and liquid), it almost seems like she might have hurt herself while trying poop. I also wonder if while we were trying to massage her, we might accidently hurt her or something. But the problem is that this is the second time this happens, and last time it was the same thing, she couldn’t poop and it seemed like she was trying really hard to poop. so I wonder is she is having problems with intestine motility.
