I’m looking to purchase a bunny hutch or condo for my two dwarf buns. They are indoor buns so I’m not worried about the wood of the structure holding up to the weather, more so for something they will enjoy and will look nice in my home. I’m also open to suggestions. My price range is up to $250.

Here are the two that I’m currently trying to decide upon:

        http://www.amazon.com/Rabbit-Hutch-Peaked-Roof-Glazed/dp/B000WFFZCG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=YPSQ7XKXW5Q&coliid=I1EZY4H2S6IS49

        What do you guys think?

Wow. I really like the 2nd one! And it’s cheaper. They are both really nice though! Especially for two dwarfs. Are they going to have an open play area also or are they going to be kept just in here and let out for play times?

I have a bunny condo made from NIC cubes but they only come out for play time because they destroy everything and I just don’t dare leave them alone!

I would say to purchase the cheaper one and then you can spend the extra $100 making it really awesome with tunnel toys and the such!

Lucky little buggers, I must say!

They have free run of my apt when I am home and on the weekends. Hatter gets into the cat litter and food if I’m not there to supervise. Little bugger loves finding trouble. lol. I like your suggestion of getting the less expensive one and then spoiling them with tunnel toys!

Those are expensive and look difficult to clean – have you considered an exercise pen?

I already have an exercise pen but want something more for them. These are less expensive then the ones I was considering.

Then I would suggest something more along this line:

                  http://www.leithpetwerks.com/indexpage.cfm?category=1

I have a 3 story one for one of my rabbits – 48 inch – you can start with a 2 story and add on if you like.  I’ve had mine for about 10 years and this company really knows rabbits – yes the shipping is expensive but it’s easy to clean, easy to assemble, easy to move around.   The owner is also a manger for the Indiana House Rabbit Society so she knows her stuff and it’s a family run business.

I second Sarita’s suggestion. When I first got Chacha bun, I ordered a bunch of stuff off of Leith Petwerks, along with the XL dog kennel with ramp that is now discontinued on the site. The people that own the site and company are very rabbits savvy — plus the items get to you quickly.

Dwarf bunnies need a lot of space too

I’ve seen the first one you linked to in person on display at a farm/feed supply chain locally and I wasn’t impressed with the sturdiness of it for the price.  The wire seemed kind of flimsy and the plastic tray is thinner than I expected, I was afraid it would break or warp.  There’s a wire grate over it as the flooring that I would have taken out, and then I wasn’t confident that the pan would hold up to being jumped on by my Holland Lop, who is a little over 4 lbs.  Also, the interior looked very difficult to clean.  I looked at the Leith cage, and really wanted to go that route, but didn’t have the funds, so I ultimately made my own C&C cage with wooden levels covered with linoleum.  My plan was adapted from the Leith 2-story cage actually.  It only cost me about $100 total and it has casters and has been working out really well.  I see this is from the beginning of November, and you’ve probably already decided on and purchased something, but I thought others reading may find this helpful.

Miss Pixie, did you decide on anything yet?

                          Hi,

I have a very similar version of the Ware one that you are looking at. I have read some comments regarding the poor quality in comparison to the price. I agree, that the quality is not worthy of the price, but in my opinion I paid for it because I found value in having something that was not an eye-sore in my living room. Yes, the removable pan is not very sturdy – it’s a thin plastic, and the hutch does have a partly wire floor. My solution to this was to cover the wire floor with a carpet that I cut custom to size at Canadian Tire, and then do not use the cleaning pan – rather a litter box. So – should you choose to proceed with either of the two hutches, keep those solutions in mind.

Looking back, I would have bought the petwerks design if I had known about it at the time. In fact, I still plan on it eventually. If you also like the petwerks design, I would encourage you to save some more money and invest in this set up rather than spend $250 now, only to spend $450 on a better one later. And as another member mentioned, the Petwerks set up allows you to buy one level and then build upon it if you wanted to expand over time (say.. get another bunny? =] )

Anyhow, this is just my two-cents. Best of luck in your decision – let us know what you choose!

I ditto Sarita. Other than that, I have a NIC condo for my lionhead and it works really great! I like that you can choose between black, white and steel color, if you want it to match your interior. I have also seen pink ones I also like that you can design it yourself, and that its easy to clean.
