My rabbit has been loosing a lot of fur for a few weeks now. I am constantly pulling out fur. I don’t know if it is her just molting or if she has mites. She is loosing fur every where on her body but mostly on her back. Most of the fur coming out is coming out in plugs with a tiny piece of skin attached at the end of it. Where the fur is coming out there is new fur coming in. She also has little dandruff where the fur is coming out. If she did not have the dandruff then i would think that she is just molting. But I don’t know if she just has dry skin or if it is mites.  Is it normal for rabbits to have a little dandruff while molting? If rabbits have mites, would the skin where the fur is coming out be their normal skin color? And is it true that you can put flax seed oil in rabbits food to help with dry skin? Please help! By the way other then the fur loss she seems happy and healthy and is acting normal! (Sorry for the bad grammar)

Is she scratching a lot? Do the areas where she’s losing fur seem to itch? The pictures look like typical shedding pattern to me, and the high amount of shedding could just be because she’s going through a big shed (my bun sheds constantly but goes through what appears to be a full coat replacement 2x/year). But the fact that the fur is coming out in clumps with a little skin piece attached sounds consistent with mites, to me–especially if she’s itching a lot.

Sometimes Captain Danger gets dry skin on his ears in the winter, and I’ve used a tiny drop of vitamin E oil (at my vet’s suggestion) to moisturize the affected areas. He’ll occasionally shed little skin flakes elsewhere, but when he had lots of fur clumps coming out attached to skin flakes–he had fur mites!

Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to treat… it’d be worth taking him to a vet to have a skin scraping for diagnosis.

I just schedule an appointment with a vet.She doesn’t scratch very much but she does try to bite at herself. As in the little pieces of skin attached to the clump of hair, this is what i mean >>>

Monkey gets dry skin when in a big moult, so its possible. but a vet check wouldn’t hurt any

I’m inexperienced with mites so I can’t offer much advice there. I did used to pull tufts of fur off my old bunny (or they would fall out on their own) during her molts. I would take her to the vet though just for piece of mind.

She looks just like my bunny lady!

The fur that you posted looks the same as my bunny when I pluck her fur out, except there is no skin on the end. As MB says, it might be that your girl has some dry skin issues.
