So frustrated -Kahlua has opened Ruperts tail again…it was yet again almost healed now it’s all yucky again

I coat it in bitter apple and it’s not doing the trick. I know it’s her because I’ve video taped them.

I’ve read in dog forums owners often put cayenne pepper on the one getting licked, but I’m not sure that’s safe. Then I’m thinking e collar but I think if Kahlua can eat, she can lick his tail….maybe worth a try? She gets so mad wearing one, but maybe if she bumps his bum with it he’ll move?

Any ideas? Other untasty sprays or lotions anyone has used? I’m so at a loss right now…

          Wow! Cheeky girl.
Is she grooming it or biting?

I imagine cayenne pepper would sting Rupert too.

What about an essential oil? Orange maybe?  Or one that has antiseptic properties also. Eucalypt, tea tree, clove…  You’d probably only need something like this in vicinity of his tail so the smell be the main deterrent to her.

Or vet wrap his tail? idk…

Thanks Jersey!! I thought about vet wrap and even bought some of the no chew kind but I can just see them eating it..I’m tryin got think of some tail condom made out of e-collar material…??
            I like the oil idea!
She seems to be grooming it and is often removing the scab so it’s fresh when I doctor it. I’m spraying with bitter apple 3x a day but not doing the trick.

Yeah, bitter doesn’t always work. A couple of mine like the bitter greens I feed so…

How about a shuttlecock with the tip taken out? Lol

K&K, I just saw this now. What about white vinegar? We use it on baseboards to repel them, so unless the smell is dreadful for poor Rupert, maybe she will keep away from it.

I just soaked my jeans in it to make them color fast (it stops dyes from running color) and it smells awful. It would stop me.

Also, what about Bag Balm? It isn’t harmful or we couldn’t put it on their feet. Maybe rub some on the tail and it will help it heal while she tastes it and goes “Yuck”?

What if the scents you are using are making her want to clean his tail more? Would you be able to keep them separated just until his tail is healed?

K&K, did you find out why he had this sore on his tail to begin with?
