I refuse to use sprays or anything about the house to train Yuki chan. I am using loud claps and the Japanese word for stop, I have noticed if I clap my hands once and say “DAME” (ダメ) she will stop what she was doing and do something else.

I have also noticed today if I call her name she responds and comes, it has only happen twice but is this the norm with rabbits.

OH and a question, she is free roaming and I refuse to cage her, and have decided to NOT spay her, but she has now learnt were the litter box is, but now and then she will come to me, snug up and then pee on me. I have tried to look that up on Japanese sites and nothing, decided to look on English sites and once again nothing, so I hope someone can answer this. What does this mean …

And nope in regards to number 2 she has not learn.

I am very hands on and she will let me pat her and she will start to purr … which was a first day  .. also did a dead bunny flop on the PC because I did not give her attention.

lol she sounds well taken care of. Her peeing on you is her marking you as hers. I’m not sure if there is a way to really stop that since it is hormonal. You could try more positive reward for going in the correct place and saying no when she pees on you. It’s awesome she is learning so much so young. I love Bunjamin to death but when he was a baby he had major attention span problems so he didn’t learn any “words” until 6 mos +. Now I think he just refuses to learn… We’ll see about that!

Yes, she is marking you as hers. She definitely loves you and is bonded with you. However, her marking may get more frequent and her behavior may get aggressive soon as her teenage hormones start. (appx. 4-6 month old.) I will say what others here will urge, which is that it is a very good idea to have her spayed as soon as she is old enough. I don’t know what made you decide not to, but I ask you to rethink that. A female rabbit has a very high chance (is it 80% likely?) to get cancer in her adult years. It is a devastating illness, hard to see her go through and expensive to care for and treat. It is so much healthier for her to spend on a spay, insuring her a much healthier life. She will not have any litters, and she will behave more gently toward you and be a bit calmer generally in about a year.

OK, that said, I want to say Yes! Bunnies can learn words! Most of our bunnies know their own names. They also learn certain commands or words used frequently. My bunny knows the word ‘treat’ so well that we spell it instead of say it unless we have one ready. My bunny knows words like ‘up’, and “gimme kiss’ (I say that, she puts her nose near mine so I can kiss her), and ‘bunny bedtime.’ Basically, if you say a word or command, followed immediately by what it means to her, and it’s something you probably do daily, you teach her to understand. They learn special words using clicker training, too. Bunnies are smart!

Wooly knows his name, “no”, “naner”, and “bed time”. That’s about it. I think it is normal, but probably varies.

Of course buns can learn words! =] That’s what’s so great about them. They are a lot smarter than anyone really thinks. =] Skipper knows her name, but she’s too stubborn to come when called. She know NO and when I say her name in a certain tone she knows when she’s doing bad. She knows veggies, pinappy, nom noms and a few others. Like Mommy and Daddy. I love how smart buns are. =]

I will have to say though. Skipper had marked both my bf, his mom, and I when she was younger. There are times when she will still pee on us. But it’s more of a blanket pee. She’ll do a spinning helicopter pee maneuver to cover a lot of space with her pee. >.< I know this behavior is DEFINITELY hormonal. There was about a two month period when she was perfectly mannered before the hormones kicked in and she acted like that.

She’s probably jealous of the attention your girlfriend gives you and is staking her claim in front of the gf. =p

Clicker training uses the little clicker button that makes a loud “click” sound. They do something you like, click, then treat. I thought about trying it with Wooly, but I would have to have Leopold corralled somewhere. I think he would just get in the way, be upset that Wooly is getting treats, and not understand what is going on. =\

Skipper’s Mama, I had a Maine coon before I left Australia, her name was Esmeralda she was jealous of any female that I brought home. Friday & Saturday night I use to work clubs as muscle to deal with trouble makers, and now and them I would return home after work with a lady, As soon as I open the door Esmeralda would come running to welcome me home, but if I had a female with me, she ark up, hiss, spit and try to scratch and bite …the female … she then head for the bedroom to stake her claim on the bed to say “No one allowed”…. When I moved to Japan I wanted to bring her but could not, so a friend took her, I really miss Esmeralda as I got her as a 6 weeks old kitten and lived with her for 3 years.

Thanks LBJ, I remember Frog Clickers when I was a kid, I have not seen them since. Will see if I can find them in Japan or something that works along the same line.

Murasaki have you tried taking a look at the cost of shipping from BB to Japan? I know BB sells clickers (they’re out at the moment) if the price isn’t outrageous for you.

Skipper’s Mama … I have ordered a lot of items from the USA and a lot of time the postage has been higher then the thing I have ordered, it is just crazy.

I like the Bunny Maze that BB sells, and there is nothing like that here in Japan, but I would take a wild guess the shipping of it to Japan would be more then it is worth … So at the moment studying how it is constructed and I will make one of my own.

As for the clickers there is a shop in Tokyo that is still making and selling them, so I have placed a order for a couple.

I also have noticed as soon as I say I am in Japan a lot of US companies “UP” the price of items or they try to say that exchange rate it ¥100 to $1 .. which is pure garbage.

If BB is able to ship to Japan she will not up the price deliberately. She’ll just pass along the cost of the shipping to you as accurately as possible. If you do decide to get a Maze (which was designed by BB and her husband, so is originally from this site and its store) I would recommend you order it from here. When you do, you can add several items you might like to try and it won’t increase the shipping by much, if at all. I’m thinking that adding a clicker to the box for the maze for example might be easy for BB to do for you. Many bunny items like willow balls and small treat bags just don’t make an order heavier, but there’s often room in the box being used for shipping. Just something to keep in mind.

What RP is suggesting, is what I pretty much do. I know what I want and I stock pile all my stuff and buy it one shot because of the shipping cost. So when the box comes in it’s like a little mini Christmas for Skips. =p I would just see for shiznits and giggles what the price of shipping is for you. BB is really good with caring about her customers.

Murasaki, I just want you to know (before you leave as a member per your request) that I forwarded this to BB so she could look up your shipping costs and send you an email about it if you still want a Maze etc. They are about to be restocked very soon. I didn’t want her to miss this request before you left us.
