My bunny slept while cuddling with me under the sheets last night.

        I think she’s cold.

Since I am afraid to squish her in my sleep,

I went out and purchased a medical electrical heating pad.

Would this be safe for my 4 mo old bun?

Otherwise, how do you keep your house rabbit warm?

Buns have a very thick fur coat, and since she’s a house rabbit, I wouldn’t say she’s cold. You probably have the heating on, or something to generate warmth, so she’ll be perfectly fine. Other than that, if you truly think shes cold, supply a cardboard box in her home-base with straw and towels and fleece in. She will burrow up in there if she is truly cold and make a nest. But rabbits handle the cold very well, moreso than heat, so she should be fine. Your just a worried bun parent.

Electric heating pad would be chewed and pose a shock hazard for her. If you really think she’s cold, you could try a hot water bottle insulated inside a pillow she could lay on. Or a box with a hole cut out and a nice warm fleece blanket.

But my bun loves to sleep on the bed with me, even in summer. He just finds it comfy. And they both like to crawl under blankets, paper etc cause it’s like a burrow to them.

If it’s not below 50F or so in your home, your bunny is probably not cold. They get hot much easier than they get cold.

Everyone has great suggestions so far! I think most people-tolerable cold temperatures should be alright for bunnies as well, but a cozy box to trap body heat might be appreciated.

If you still want to use the heating pad, maybe you could make a cover for it so that your bunny has absolutely no access to the cord. All it takes is one curious chomp!

I am reading Bunnies are more playful in cold weather, you just need to put a lot of hay in their house so they can cuddle up to it, you need to make sure their water is fresh and does not freeze, and if you have babies have a heat lamp … they need clean fresh air also, so a gas heater would be a major no no.

The Blanket Yuki chan in on is for my bed, it is a Wool Satin Mix and very warm in winter …You could see about getting something like this .. This one is for a double bed and over $US510, I am looking to get one for Yuki chan, but for a human babies cot, which is the perfect size for a rabbit I think.

I can attest to bunnies being more active in cold weather. When we had our heat wave a few days ago Sir Rupert would pretty much only stand in front of the air purifier and let it blow on him and wouldn’t do very much at all. These past few cooler days, though, he’s been a lot more crazy bunny.

I think any temperature that you can be in, without a jacket is just fine for your bunny. Hot weather is trouble, but a cool but human tolerable house is perfectly alright The only thing to worry about for a house bunny is that they aren’t near a drafty window.

I would remove the electric heating blanket-the cord could be chewed, but they are notoriously unsafe even when used for people (fires, burns) so I would advise not using it.

I bet she just wanted to cuddle on a soft bed with her human
