I recently finished "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult - oh my gosh, what a huge tear jerker...highly recommend this.

Just started "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova - so far, totally intriguing...has anyone read this?  

 I really need to read more books...

Most recently I've read Basic Principals of Behavior Analysis. Yay grad school!

I am currently rereading Watership down by Richard Adams again for the hundreth time lol

I've read the Historian. It's very good. But it's very involved and sometimes I got lost.

I LOVED Watership Down. Read it long before I ever got Cinnabun.

As normal: not reading anything fun, myself. Right now exploring mimetic theory for my masters thesis.

I'm in the middle of the first book for the Game of Thrones series. It's taking me forever to finish it! Dx I actually really want to reread Les Mes. before the new movie rendition comes out in Dec. I'm really curious to see how it turns out.

I do believe I read the Historian wayyyyy back when it first came out. I think I lent the copy of it to my brother to read it once I finished it and he totally trashed it. =p My Sister's Keeper had me balling like a baby. And my bf was real sweet to take me to the movies to see the movie make of it when it came out. He was so good and prepared and bought me a tissue box for the showing! xD Oh man I don't know how he heard the movie over my sniffling.

Clinical and Administrative Procedures for Medical Assistants, Medical Law and Ethics, and a few of my Time and Newsweek magazines that I get in the mail. I don't read many books when I am in school, but on break I don't mind picking up a book for fun.

I finally got through reading all the books in A Song of Fire and Ice (Game of Thrones books). It was fantastic! When I get my hands on something I enjoy, I read like a maniac and can't put it down...I ran through those books waaayy too quickly heh. 

Skipper, I'm totally looking forward to the Les Miserables movie too!  I'm a big fan of the musical and read the books several years back.  There are definitely differences between the book and the musical, but I definitely enjoyed both.

Haha, looks like everybody's having fun with school reading materials...I'm on "Clinical Assessment and Treatment of Anemia" and "Pathology of Myeloid Neoplasms" myself. Sigh.

I plan on reading "The Historian" at some point. Got about 30 books in my "To read" pile right now. Really want to read "Watership Down" too.

I just finished "The Lucky One" by Nicholas Sparks. So not my type of book, but I did enjoy it. I never read this type of novel (mainstream chick novel-type) but my friend insisted and went through the trouble of bringing it to me, so I read it. Was actually good to get my mind out of the royal gutter for a change. I pretty much just stick to medieval/renaissance royalty novels. I like Fantasy too.

Next, I will probably get back into Game of Thrones, since I started the first book a little while back.

Game of Thrones is sooo good! I still have to read the 5th book -- although right now the 3rd was definitely, by far, my favorite! I'm currently reading one called "Whispers" by Belva Plain -- it's okay. Not really captivating though.

Peppypoo -- I do the same thing! I can't put it down and then nothing around me gets done. It's a real problem. And SkippersMama -- totally agree with you about "My Sisters Keeper".

I haven't decided what book I'm going to read next (since I'm almost done with this one). Was thinking about Crime and Punishment? I read it a long time ago but don't really remember much about it.

Sarita - I'm actually in the middle of The Historian! Very very exciting book.
But I've had to take a break from it to read a lot of curriculum. Have my first exam in November and I'm not ready, at all Spending too much time on BB!

BTW, J.K. Rowling's new book for adults was released last Thursday. Don't anyone tell me what it's about, but I put it on hold at my library and they will email me when it becomes available. "Casual Vacancy"

I am LOVING "The Historian" - it is about Vlad the Impaler and travels through Eastern Europe and the Carpathian Mountain area and now I want to read
"Dracula" by Bram Stoker which I happen to have on my Nook - perfect for this time of year. Also interesting to me since my mother's family is from Czechoslovakia and it's very relevant to that area of course.

I highly recommend this book, it's very immersing - well it has been for me anyway. I even want my Mom to read it.

Sarita, LOL. Warning: Dracula is Really BORING!!!! I made myself read it a few years ago when I decided to catch up on some classics and it was a big yawn. I mean, I had to make myself go back to it. Not that it wasn't the whole Dracula story that we all know from the 47 movies based on it, just that by the time I read the original, it was so heavily weighed down in the stylized language, and the descriptions of the endless travel over several countries (by boat, by train, by horses, everything except by flying bats) that it just seemed to move like a snail. Read it by all means. Just don't pay a dime. It's free on Google books or at the library. zzzzzzz Oh. sorry. Dozed off at the memory.

I finished Still Life and am now a Huge Louise Penny fan! I got the next one, and my mother has read 6 of her 8 written so far. She even re-read one because she could focus more on the writing and characters once she knew 'who done it'. I love finding a great new (to me) author.

Am continuing my series of books by Linda Fairstein. SVU writer, very good ongoing characters. Tough reality stuff about rape victims and what happens in a trial, but really informative with lots of history of NYC. I'm on "Bad Blood" now.

Oh no, I had high hopes for Dracula - it was free on my Nook so I won't be sad if I hate it. Oh well, read "The Historian" though - it's so good.

I'm curious to learn what you think of Dracula. I may have been very impatient at the time. There's also a Texan suitor of Lucy in there, if I'm remembering right. Kind of a "Cowboy Tourist Meets Vlad the Impaler" thing. He's more important in the book than in the movies.

She has another book called "The Swan Thieves". It looks mighty interesting. Have you read it?

I haven't read that one yet, but I got a sample on my Nook. "The Historian" is not at all gruesome though - it's part love story/part mystery and so interesting because it takes you places in Eastern Europe and Turkey.

I didn't find The Historian gruesome at all. I just finished Wuthering Heights and am now working my way through Les Mes. =p Yay classics. Still have yet to finish The Game of Thrones series for some reason. I wonder if it's because its my Nook. I would much rather read a paperback.

Ditto what RabbitPam said on dracula.. I too had high hopes and I nearly didn't want to finish it but it has a few very interresting parts
and yeah, I'm really enjoying the historian!

Another great book ive recently read is "her fearful symmetry". My gooood is it good! I would google it or look it up on amazon. I'm not great at describing books/doing it justice. I Can say though, it is very omnious, dark, sad - yet extremly loving.

Oh, just looked that up on Barnes & Noble Svandis - it's by the author of "The Time Traveler's Wife" and I ordered a sample for my Nook to remind me to purchase it when I've done some more reading of my other books - it sounds fantastic.

That's one thing I love about Nook is ordering the sample so I don't have to purchase the full book until I'm ready and it reminds me of what I want to read.

I never heard of "The Historian" before reading this thread. I looked more into it and it sounds really good. I'll definitely add it to my "to read list" (which seems to get longer every day). Thanks!

I'm currently reading "Out of Oz", the final book in the Wicked Years series by Gregory Maquire. The first book in the series, "Wicked" was fantastic (and had a broadway musical of the same name based on it) but everything since has been a bit of a chore to get through. While this book is an improvement I'll be glad when the series over.

And for anyone who hasn't read Watership Down yet. It's amazing! Hands down one of my favourite books. I don't even know how many times I read it growing up.

Sarita oh my gosh. I thought I had waterworks while reading My Sister's Keeper. It was ten times worse while I was reading The Time Traveler's Wife. I honestly don't think I can re-read the book for fear of how much I would cry through it.

I'm reading The Bourne Ultimatum by Robert Ludlum for the forth time.

Thanks for the tip about The Historian. I think I'll put it on my list, too.
I also found Maquire a bit laborous and finally gave up. I like his concepts, but maybe the writing bogged? I don't remember anything except being disappointed.
Also, thanks for the reminder about The Time Traveler's Wife. So many raves, but then I saw the movie first. Mum said the book was much better.

After Stormy passed away, I ordered a book called "Animal Spirit- Our faithful companion's transition to the afterlife" by Penelope Smith. Has anyone read this? It's a bit "out there" with a lot about telepathy and what not but I'm finding it comforting. I just started it yesterday. I had ordered it online but couldn't bring myself to start it.

Memaire: I agree. The books following Wicked were....ugh. Especially A Lion Among Men, that one was pretty painful. I haven't picked up the last book yet. I'm almost scared to. Wicked was so impressive, and everything else paled by comparison, that I'm almost hesitant to even try.

LPT, I saw that and was curious about it, but wasn't ready to read it either. Let me know what you think of it. I'd love to read an excerpt.
