a few q’s

  On the 13th and 14th I will be making a 3 hour trip to pick up two rabbits! So excited.

 -3 hour trip,should I give food/water?

 -same crate or no? 

 -how long should I leave them in the pen once I get home,before handling them?

I would definitely bring along some hay or pellets to put in if they’re young.

As for the same crate — our buns actually became quite bonded after experiencing the “horror” of the car ride together. When buns feel threatened, they will come together to get through the ordeal together so some times that is the best solution if you plan on bonding them quickly. I would bring along an extra crate JUST in case they don’t get along and make sure you set the crate where you can see them in case anything does happen.

How old are the buns and are they currently living together or separate and if separate you could always ask whomever you’re buying them from to give them a few minutes of beginning bonding to see how they react to each other (or you could even just do it yourself when you get there!).

As for handling, it’s almost always a must to give your bun the time to come to you! Most buns like doing things on their own accord so if you are constantly trying to touch them or pick them up they may get irritated and learn to hate it. Also, some buns are uber-friendly and will come to you quickly to begin a friendship and bond with you and others need a lot of time and love before they can even begin to trust you. Both buns could be COMPLETELY different in how they react to their first few days with you! And a nice Craisin is always a good treat to give them to get them interested in you! My buns are crazy for craisins and I’ve many others are too!

Thank you. Im looking at a few diff. ones right now and I will decide when I get there,theres 3 babies and 2 adults.  So im trying to prepare for both just incase,right now im thinking I will take the babies.

 

Also none of them are fixed,so I should probley seperate right?

If their not fixed, I would separate them until they are fixed. Do plan on doing it quickly? How young are the babies? I’m excited for you! What kind of buns are they?

If they aren’t altered, they can’t be housed together or bonded until they are 4-5 months old and altered. Even if you are “guaranteed” they are the same gender, its best to be safe for a couple months and keep them separated.

To be frank, I would just get 1 bunny and bond with it, and then add another later down the line if you decide its something your bun needs. It’ll be cheaper up front, for vet costs, and it’ll also be much less stress initially, and more fun. I tell ya, if I didn’t have the bond I did with Sam, I never would’ve made it though bonding her with Lady

ETA- if there was a bonded pair you can rescue, that would be good!
