hey guys.. Yeti broke his toe nail… i dont know how or when.. he was really digging this morning in his cage and woke me up at 5am with all the scratching which he never does so once i hauled my butt out of bed at 530 to check he stopped.. he started back up again at 7 so i grabbed him to clip his nails a bit (i did his full once over and groom about 3 weeks ago) but i thought maybe i hadnt trimmed his nails far enough.. when i got to his second front foot his “pinky toe nail” is snapped off.. there’s a small amount of dried blood and hes not bleeding anymore.. hes showing no signs of pain whilst hopping around and hes being his usual pain in the rear now that hes out of his condo. should i be concerned?

his toe isnt broken and the nail hasnt been fully ripped out or anything…

i dont know if i should take him in.. he isnt insured yet so its quite expensive…

should i take him to our vet? or should i just keep an eye on him?

has this happened to anyone else?

Bunjamin ripped a toenail a while back. By the time I had found it it had clotted. I would just keep an eye on it. Make sure it heals and doesn’t get infected. He should be fine. If it was actively bleeding he would need vet assistance but it’s clotted so he should be okay. I had my vet look at it and the only thing she was able to tell me that I didn’t know was that he was already growing a new one (he lost the whole toenail).
