Bindi`s vet appointment was last night. It was very hard going back there so soon after Stormy. I`ve been there 4 times since Saturday and it will be 5 times before the week is out.
The vet is quite concerned about the big fluid blob that has formed in his armpit area. It`s from the Sub Q fluids that traveled down and, for some reason, didn`t dissolve. It`s not an abscess but it`s very inflamed and he`s having a hard time hopping. She said she`s never seen that before. Go figure. My animals love coming up with unique and unusual health problems. I was hoping she could drain it but she said she doesn`t want to disturb it for fear it will abscess. He`s on Baytril as a precaution, Metacam for the swelling on top of his motility drugs he still needs for several more days. My house has looked like a bunny hospital for the past month and, I guess, it will have to for some time to come.
With regards to his GI upset from the weekend, she wants me to try to get as much Critical Care in him as I can to up his fiber. I tried telling her it`s literally impossible to get CC in him, but she said I have to try. I`m not too worried though because this morning his poops were his normal `Bindi Loo cannonballs`. Re-check Friday night. Really hoping his lump has gone down by then. I`m going away for the weekend and want to be able to relax and have a nice time. I need to de-stress.
His GI upset was most likely caused by his teeth. She could see two hooks on his bottom teeth but we need to make sure his belly is fine and wait till that lump clears up before going ahead with the dental. His last dental was April so it looks like it will need to be done a few times a year. Ugh.....so much stress every time. And it`s frustrating because his weight keeps yo-yo-ing which I`m assuming is due to his teeth. Right now, he`s too thin.
I really need Bindi to feel better and start being his cuddly, hilarious self.
I`m concerned he is going to get depressed without Stormy. They weren`t bonded but they spent several hours together in the living room every day. The last month or so, though, they pretty much just ignored each other. Bindi is also used to having Stormy`s condo right beside him. The lack of activity is probably strange to him.

This is a difficult development for both you and Bindi. I am wondering if the vet is hoping it will burst naturally (or with Bindi's help) on its own, but I don't see how that is better than deflating it by draining it. Maybe a quick email to Dr. Dana Krempel to ask if she's seen this before would give you another perspective. Not getting the teeth worked on is a hard delay, too, since it impacts his eating. I wouldn't add worrying about his grief for Stormy. It sounds like, in their own bunny way, they were both well aware of the health issues they were dealing with and did a bit of withdrawal before the event. I think Bindi is more concerned about what's bothering him at the moment. His routine is changing due to that anyway, so just keep giving him care and attention (even if you have to fight him to eat CC). It's more your grief I am concerned with, so if you can possibly go this weekend, then go. My vet boards bunnies, and I wonder if taking him to your vet for the whole weekend so she can watch him and be on hand if anything happens with the blob is a viable option. |

Oh no, poor Bindi, that sounds terribly uncomfortable. Wonder how that could have happened...did the vet have any ideas about that? I hope you can get his teeth filed soon too. Vibes to Bindi. |

I wonder if the fluids were between layers of fat? A vet I saw about a year or more ago with Jersey (stasis) said sometimes subQ fluid would move or pool down there but normally it would still be absorbed. |

I hope that the fluid lump will dissolve and that Bindi will be completely well soon. It's good to hear that he is making big poops. |

Now it looks like a big, empty skin bubble. It's horrible looking. Hopefully, it will deflate by tomorrow. We have a vet apt. tomorrow evening anyways. This afternoon, he refused a piece of lettuce which concerns me. Hope we're not going to go through the not eating thing again. Man, that was stressful. Maybe his mouth is hurting him and he's being super selective. He hasn't eaten much hay today. I tried giving CC once and got maybe a mouthful in and the rest all over him. I totally hate having to give him so many meds right now when he's just recovering from a sore tum. When am I gonna get a break? Seriously. I just want time to mourn Stormy and not be stressed out or worried about my other bunnies. |

(((((((((((((((Stephanie))))))))))))))) When it rains it pours. :'( I'm so sorry that Bindi is having such difficulties. I've never seen sub q fluids not absorb like that either albeit I've seen them take awhile. Poor Bindi and poor You! So it's deflated now? Does it feel warm to the touch? Reddened? How's his basal body temp? I'll keep you all in my prayers...you have been constantly in my thoughts. I hope he will improve so you can get away for a wee bit. Ricky will be watching him, yes? (((((((((((((Super nomming and healing vibes for Bindi and comfort vibes for you))))))))))))))))) |

I hear you critical care can be hard to give to rabbits. Sunshine didn't want to take hers. she would run away from me. One thing i did get sunshine to eat and the only thing for a couple of days was parsley. She would eat that like crazy. Prayers to you and your bun glad bindi is doing better!

I'm so sorry for all your pain, LPT. It sounds horrible, especially after everything that has happened with Stormy. Many healing vibes for Bindi and yourself. You've been through a very, VERY tough time and he's so lucky to have such an awesome bunny momma that is putting his needs before her own! Just keep up the good work and everything you've been doing. It's difficult right now but when he's better everything will slow down in the bunny world and you two can mourn together... he'll definitely need your love after all this. Your bun is extremely lucky to have you, don't get down on yourself. You're a wonderful person and sometimes things have to hit rock bottom before they can go up again. Just focus on YOU and your little bun and get through this. And then give yourself some MUCH needed relaxation. You definitely deserve it. Hang in there and know we are all here to talk to if you ever need -- to vent, cry, or anything! |

I'm sorry that Bindi has stopped eating again and that he now has an abscess. I hope that the vet's treatments will get him on the road to recovery. You are not being dramatic, you are going through a very bad time. We all understand how much you love your bunny and how awful it is when they are ill. I'll be thinking of you both. |

Oh my goodness, Steph, I'm sorry to read this development. :'( You are correct though, if it is E.C. then he is in the best place where they can get him eating and maintain his fluids and keep meds running through IVs regularly. Yes, bunnies can live with e. Cuniculi. It is possibly what caused Mimzy's head tilt. It takes intensive nursing care but it can be controlled. It will depend on how Bindi responds to his treatment. He should be on metacam for pain and swelling, panacur to eradicate the parasite and continue his baytril for now at least to keep secondary infection at bay. Sadly loppies because of their ears can develop this parasite or inner ear infections that bring on head tilt. Sometimes the tilt resolves and sometimes it doesn't. The first two weeks that Mimzy was ill I wasn't sure he'd make it ...but he's still here and functional. It's been almost four months since he got sick. I am all for aggressive treatment to tackle this parasite. Testing is liable to be inconclusive since he was already on baytril. But he's already on much of the therapy he will need to beat this. Sorry if I sound scattered. Typing from my phone so it's hard to post correctly. Doubling vibes and prayers. My inbox is open if you need me. (((((((((((Huge hugs)))))))))))) |

It's frustrating, like you said there is really no tests that can be done to know for sure. Just like with Stormy. He's still on the Baytril and Metacam, I believe. Not sure what the med is she is giving him for the possible EC. Will ask tomorrow. I'm hoping that whatever this is, we caught it early enough. I spend a lot of time with Bindi and have never noticed any neurological symptoms. He was already at the vet when they started. The Dr. mentioned she was going to be aggressive in treating this. This is truly unbearable. Not sure how much my heart and stress level can take. |

One more thing...if it os head tilt and he should start rolling, meclazine (Dramamine) is sometimes helpful to keep their balance correct. ((((((((Hugs)))))))))

{{{{{{{{{Bindi}}}}}}}}}}}} *****HUGS****** Oh my gosh!! Well for the head tilt, it's really a quality of life thing. The problem with Chuck having tilt was that he was blind and deaf too. They almost always recover from tilt. The articles I read, said that they often recover even with no treatment. It's not often known what causes it. EC is thought to be an archaic explanation and it's often middle ear infection rather than a protozoan in the brain(EC)-so treating aggressively will mean lots of meds. Meclizine is a anti nauseant we used, maybe your vet will be able to find someone to make it should he actually have tilt. Its a cant hurt might help drug. The only real worry with tilt is some uncomfort and the inital rolling. You just make the area safe and do frequent checks, lots of meds, they usually don't make it to the litter box so lots of cleaning, but ultimately the usually recover completely or with slight tilt. There is also surgery for persistant-a teca bo, Mandy my parents dog had this, Chuck I was not going to put through it. It's a last resort and works. But often not indicated as antibiotics will do it. I hope what I wrote is helpful, what I want to get across is head tilt is not life threatening, and Bindi is a trooper, so this is a stumbling block maybe and will stress you out, but otherwise you'll both get through it. I wish I could pop over with my banana critical care for you, mine eat it off a plate. Do you have the regular flavor or the banana? It might be just worth a try mixing it up into a solid mush and presenting it on a plate? Another option-maybe a bunny smoothie-pumpkin plus favorite fruit in a blender? Pumpkin has tons of fibre...could help maybe? He might take that off a plate for you?
