Hi there - I have seen some posts about having Critical Care on hand in case of emergency, and/or after a neuter/spay.  Roscoe is scheduled for his neuter tomorrow and I forgot about this until just now.  Should I have some on hand?  Where can I get it?
Any info is appreciated!

Personally I keep Critical Care, baby food (to make medicine and critical care taste better), pumpkin, and pedialyte on hand at all times. You never know when you may have to force feed a bun to get them through the night until you see the vet. You can get it from some pet stores (usually the higher end ones that cary Oxbow) or your vet.

I think the most important thing with the neuter is to get pain control medication, such as metacam, for a couple days when Roscoe comes home. He is much more likely to eat on his own if he's not hurting.

Your vet likely sells it (that is where I got mine). You can call around to different vets if your vet doesn't to see if they do. I have seen it for sale online, but it wouldn't get to you quick enough. In an emergency where you don't have critical care, you can crush up pellets and mix it with a little bit of water or apple juice to syringe feed that to your buns.

I like to always have Critical Care on hand, but it's my experience that boys are usually pretty willing to eat after their neuter. If your vet has CC, I would buy it because you never know and it's great to have. Also, pick up some of his fave foods for after the neuter. Fragrant herbs are great for stimulating appetite (parsley, cilantro, mint).

I'm also going to say it probably won't be necessary after the neuter, but it's always a good thing to keep onhand. Especially since my experience has usualy been that any bunny health problems are going to happen on the weekend when I can't get my buns in to the vet until Monday. Or a long weekend, and it's Tuesday at the earliest.

Thanks, everyone, for the information! I've got all of those other things on hand, except for the critical care. I will ask the Vet about it tomorrow. But I do have the Pedialyte, pumpkin, baby food, and can always mash pellets if I have to. I think he'll be okay. I'm just a worried mama, considering how many sad stories I've heard lately....

Just wanted to wish you luck with Roscoe's neuter today & a speedy recovery. I'm so jealous, we still have 5 days till it's our turn...
