So its turns out that somehow, we have a mouse. Foo DOES NOT like the mouse. We are trying to humanely catch the mouse so we can take it outside and let it go. Ever since the first appearance of the mouse, Foo has been marking the spot where we saw it like crazy. I am wondering if theres anything I can do to help her chill out until the mouse is caught?

We have one too we are trying to catch, and If Blue is out he has chased it a couple times and thumped at him or her after it dissapeared.

She hasnt actually seen, just smelled it and feels the need to reclaim the corner of the room…constsntly. She is still using her littrbox like a good bun, but is making an effort to go in mouse territory as well. I feel bad for her and want her to know its okay and to chill out but I dont know what to do.

Mice tend to be active in the middle of the night. Maybe she has seen it and it is running around while you are asleep? If that is possible, maybe leaving some lights on and even a radio for sound would scare the mouse from having nighttime parties. (Mice love peanut butter, btw for trying to catch it. I had an infestation once and caught a lot that way)

Didnt know that about peanut butter. Totally will try that. Its possible she has seen it after we go to bed. We have been up pretty late since we have been on vacation and ive been home due to my surgery and we havent seen it the past few days/nights. Thats why I wad assuming she hasnt seen it.

Also… once you catch it, make sure you release it REALLY far away. My ex had a pet rat that looked like a black and white spotted cow. He decided he didn’t like him one day, and took him two blocks away and threw him in a plastic bag out of the car. The rat came back to his door the next day. (It was a college campus, so there were a lot of places it could have gone instead) I don’t know if mice are that smart or not… I tried being humane catching the ones when I had the infestation (I was living in a house on a wildlife refuge for my job at the time) and there were just too many to do that.

Oye, poor rat. Thanks for that advice. We have a feild down the street where I think he will be happy. My fiance wants to catch him and keep him. He already named the mouse, Algernon.

You can spray the whole corner with a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water. This will remove Foo’s scent from there (so he might not go back to spray again) and may also remove the scent of the mouse. It may even repel the mouse and get it to leave, though I doubt it.
Put the trap out of harm’s way for Foo, but add the peanut butter enticement so you can catch Algernon. If Foo sprays there after you’ve given a wide spray of the solution (include the wall and baseboard – it won’t hurt or stain.) then he probably saw Algernon there. A light in that corner and the trap in a darker spot nearby may lead the mouse to it.

Thanks everyone! I am hoping Algernon is safely capt ured soon.

Just wanted to let everyone know, Algernon has been caught. She/he is super cute, but I dont know what we are going to do with her/him yet. We have her in the bucket we caught her in with some food and water, and she cant get out over night.

Keep him/her!! I don’t know if this is seen as cruel or not but I probably would haha! Just make it a super cool massive cage ! I had gerbils when I was little and when we got my cat we had to make their cage bigger as we couldn’t have them out very often (the cat was very keen on getting them) so we got a table and my mum made a big rectangle out of chicken wire to go over the whole top of the table and put it on there then we hung ropes and stuff from the roof. They LOVED it. They turned pretty feral after that though so we just let them be with each other. If we ever tried to get them out they’d kick and roll around in your hand biting, they just became accustomed to having no human contact.

I thought you said you have a friend who wanted him, and was the one who named him Algernon? I’m very glad you caught him.

If he won’t take the mouse after all, I would drive far away to a park with lots of bushes or woods, and release him in a fertile wild place with plenty of cover for protection. You don’t want to release him nearby, but a woods tends to be where other mice live.

So we went to the petstore and got a little cage to put Algernon in. While we were transferring her from the bucket to the cage she ninja jumped up Ryan’s shirt sleeve and escaped….so back to square one. Uggggh, lol.

That is so funny!! Well, at least now you have a cage for her and you know how to catch her– you’ve already done it once!
