Does anyone have the "MyFitnessPal" app? Wondering if I should add some people to it to help keep me motivated? |

How does it work? I was just looking at it and I need an app to keep me motivated to work out and watch what I eat also! But I couldn't really get the jist from my quick glance on the app store. |

I've used the website version off and on for over a year now. When I'm being good and actually using it, it's fantastic. - Annette |

I haven't really used it, to be completely honest, I should start though! What it is, is you put in your weight, height etc. and it will give you a caloric intake you must consume for the day. You log what you eat and when you exercise. You can have buddies and they can give you little motivational posts and stuff. It was rated high on the app store so it must be good! haha I think it tracks your weight and has a graph to show your progress too. I'm not sure on that one though, but I THINK I saw that. lol =) |

I used to use it but it can be dangerous if you suffer from any form of eating disorder because you can set the calorie intake to as low as you want. I used to make it my goal to end the day on a negative amount of calories and my life got basically consumed by it for a period of time. I might start using it again but I'm not sure yet. You want to be hitting around 1200 calories per day and for males it's 1500 per day minimum for healthy weight loss of course accompanied by healthy eating. Used correctly it is a fantastic tool ! |

i used it for a bit, and i think if you're in the mindset to lose weight healthily it's great. i had the same problem as isabella though, trying to see how little i could eat, so i decided i needed to stop using it. one thing i love it for and still use it for is to calculate calories in my own recipes. i bake a lot and find it good to know how many calories are in a cookie, muffin, etc. |

You need to remember that there's more to eating and health than just calories. We tend to think of calories as being bad because we've been conditioned to think that, but they're not. A calorie is a measure of energy, it's just surplus calories that are bad because they get stored as fat. But calories are like money - you need a certain amount of them to be able to do the things you want. The more you do - like exercise etc - the more calories you need. If you have excess calories stored then they get used up, but if you're not taking in at least a minimum amount in the first place your body goes into panic mode and starts to think that you're basically writing cheques that your body can't cash, and that's when bad things happen. The program sets what it thinks is the minimum calories you have - just trust it and go with that. Try to eat that much and at least a portion of the exercise calories you burn. You won't drop 10 pounds in a week, but you will lose weight slowly and steadily which is the best way for your body to adjust to it. - Annette |

I use it. It has really helped me pay attention to what I was eating. Not always what I was eating but the amounts. |

I just downloaded it because I need to hold myself accountable if I want to lose weight for my wedding. I'd love to be buddies with you. |

I used the app for a while, should probably start again, but I really liked it. My favourite part is, that while it does focus on calories it has a nurtritional breakdown and shows you what amount you should be getting a day, and what you actually are getting, based on what you enter in. It saves you from having to read all the labels and actually calculate it all yourself |

At first I would've told you, no adding other people won't really help with motivation... but... One of my friends got the app and she got the little app award for charting her food for 40 days. All of a sudden a competitive streak flared up and I've been religious on charting my food now. Add me @ onerighteousbabe It really works, last year I lost 20 pounds with it. I've kept it off too, and now I'm ready to lose some more! |
