She got hold of a nasal spray bottle and bit into it. The next 24 hours are critical.

Hubby is at ER vet now but even they aren’t sure what to do. We had to call poison control for info.

He’s furious (short temper) and daughter is distraught (it’s her dog but was in his care at the time)and with all else we have going on this is nothing short of a disaster.

Please pray for healing, competence on the vet’s part and patience on OH’s part. It could be four hours till symptoms present and all we can do is wait and administer antidote as needed.

Thanks in advance for all vibes and prayers.

Oh no!! I’m so so sorry, definitely sending good thoughts your way for all members of your family, two-legged and otherwise.

Thanks peppy…yeah we’re all pretty much undone here. I don’t think we’ll get any sleep tonight.
Poor pup didn’t handle her overnight stay for her spay well and that was at our regular doctor’s…she’ll be miserable here. :'(

I just hope the antidote doesn’t do her in…it’s a six of one half dozen of the other proposition. The nasal spray could plummet her b.p. but the antidote could blow her heart out.

Needless to say…hubby is feeling rather rubbish atm.

I am sure hubby is feeling bad but I hope he also forgives himself. He really could not have known this would happen. Vibes to all of you for your Pup to pull through this and for your HB to forgive himself.

If he needs a comparison to realise that he is a great person for feeling bad and being there to make him understand that it is not a burden he should carry let me tell you about my neighbour. Louise went to Bali for a week, a gift from her daughter and son in law. She came back to find her dogs unwell. Whilst she was away her Cousin and his family who have migrated from NZ are staying and were expected to care for the dogs. Louise had some concerns before leaving but was sure common humanity would make them do the right thing. Most of it went well but when she saw the dogs on her return and asked why they did not look well (whilst grabbing her coat and bag for a vet run) the Cousins wife (who hates animals) informed her that they had laid dishes of crumbled rat poison around the house on the floor and the dogs had run in and eaten it, this quoted by cousins wife who was laughing about the incident “you should have seen it, they gobbled it down, licked their lips and came back for more”

Frankly, I am with Louise in thinking this was not an accident and for C.O.L. if a dog in your care ate rat poison wouldn’t you stop it and take it to a vet ? They didn’t. They could have come next door and told me and I would have taken them to the vet but NO, they thought they’d just wait and see, animals are disposable and vets are a wasted expense. I personally would have kicked their arses to the kerb then and there but Louise is tolerating them as hopefully they will have a home of their own in another month but I suspect it was touch and go. If the dogs had died they probably would have lied about what happened. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the dogs had died the Cousin and Co would be sleeping in the park. But the audacity, to lay poison in someone else’s home (especially when we don’t have rats/It’s a duplex and we Mortein TossNTear the roof cavity twice a year), especially where their pets could get to it then to stand by and watch and laugh whilst they ate it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So compared to this your HB should not feel guilt, he is doing his best to correct an error that he could not have foreseen.

Vibes to you all! It seems like you just can’t catch a break, doesn’t it?

                    Any news? Is it Ebony?

                    {{{Vibes!}}}

@Roberta- Argh those people! I’d be telling them to move out had that happened to me. That’s bordering on a reportable offense isn’t it?!
Sorry MM. I don’t mean to go off topic. Had to express my disgust.

No worries Jerz…Roberta, surely I would have turfed them out myself for something like that. How anyone could think feeding rat poison was okay borders on criminally insane!
Yes, this was Ebon who was in hospital last night. My hubby called at 6 this a.m. to let me know she was okay when he picked her up. So we’ll just be watching her closely the rest of the day now.

Thanks everyone for all your vibes and prayers. It’s been a terrible night so I’m back to trying to catch up on some sleep. Will update later as warranted.

Oh my goodness, Mimz. I’m so happy that she made it through the night okay. How scary!!! ***Hugs to you***

How much of the stuff did she actually ingest?

                          Please do keep us updated!!!

So glad Ebony is OK, hope she gets better quickly now.
Hi JG, I think the vet would have reported them but as Louise is home and they will be leaving he left it but if anything else happens I think they are gone both from the house and reported to the RSPCA.

Oh my gosh! I’m so glad she’s okay! I always worry about this with Dakota. She likes to hoard things. Slippers, wallets, pens, almost anything she can reach during the night. I’ll come downstairs in the morning or to let her out during the night and she’s got some stolen treasure stashed away near her. She never chews any of the things, she just wants to have them, but I still worry about something accidently coming open or breaking.
