SOOOO my husband and i went veggie shopping for Yeti yesterday and i remembered reading broccoli so i figured we’d give it a try. this morning i gave him a small chunk of it and he went bananas for it… a few minutes later im scrolling through my bunny bible and i read this

      • These should be no more then about 15 % of the diet (About 1 tablespoon per 2 lbs of body weight per day).
      • Carrots
      • Broccoli (leaves and stems)!!!!!!
      • Edible flowers (roses, nasturtiums, pansies, hibiscus)
      • Celery
      • Bell peppers (any color)
      • Chinese pea pods (the flat kind without large peas)
      • Brussel sprouts
      • Cabbage (any type)
      • Broccolini
      • Mushrooms (any cultivated type)
      • Summer squash
      • Zucchini squash
      • WHAAAAAAAAAT!?! i went rushing to him and all of it has been devoured…

No, they aren’t poisionous. It is just a recommended percentage of the total amount along with the leafy greens is all.

I think a small chunk is going to be just fine.

BB has brocolli (the whole of it) listed as being tolerable but may cause some upset tummies in buns with very sensitive tummies. So, unless Yeti has a really easily upset tummy, he should be fine. However, I’d wouldn’t give him it often as there are a lot of other things that are better for him (IMO). If you want to give a type of treat try dried fruit like raisins or cranberries.

Actually this is the new thinking on broccoli from Dr. Susan Brown:

Some people are concerned about feeding foods that cause gastrointestinal (GI) gas in people such as broccoli. A rabbit’s GI tract is not the same as a human’s and many of the foods that may cause gas in a human do not cause gas in a rabbit. The most common types of foods that do create havoc in the rabbit’s GI tract are those that are high in starch and sugars because they create a change in the pH of the cecum and eventually can throw the whole system off. The result can be serious GI disease. Foods that are notorious for causing rabbit GI problems when fed improperly are grains of any kind and legumes (beans, peas, etc). Even starchy root vegetables and fruits if fed to excess with their high load of sugars and starch could be a problem and should only be fed as a very small part of the diet.

From the House Rabbit Society website:
