        hi!
my bunny is sneezing, but i don’t know why… we use aspen shavings in his entire cage, but lately, he has been sneezing alot , maybe 4 times a day. sometimes i see clear mucus in his nose, but it’s not dripping or anything. he has very rough, loud sneezes sort of like the sound of a zipper. i’m just wondering, what is going on ? should i bring him to the vet? is there anything i can do rather than bring him to the vet?

I would bring him to the vet. Snuffles is not an actual disease or infection – it is a catch all term for an upper respiratory infection. If you haven’t already taken him to the vet for a wellness check, it is a good idea to do that and address his sneezing as well.

As for the aspen shavings, they are safe however, you really don’t need to use them in the entire cage. If you have a litter box, just put any litter or shavings in the box to try and direct your rabbit to use the litter box – otherwise they are confused about where they should go. Do you have a litter box in his cage?

             hi,
i don’t have enough money to actually bring him to the vet, but i am saving up.
my bunny isn’t neutered/ spayed yet  but he will be soon, so he doesn’t really use the litter box as much as i want him to, so sometimes there is urine and poop outside of the litter box.. that is why i use aspen shavings throughout the whole cage.
maybe i could use aspen shavings in the litterbox only , but what would you recommend on using for the rest of the cage?

You don’t actually need anything on the bottom of the cage (the cage shouldn’t have a wire floor). It would seem like they would like something soft, but not really. I used to line my first bun’s cage with towels, but she would push them aside to lie on the plain cage floor.

Rabbits are pretty clean, and litterbox training tends to get better if there isn’t anything to soak up the urine in the rest of the cage. It encourages them to use the litterbox.

No the cage is not wired on the bottom but I feel like he will slip on the bare floor! But I will try that out thanks so much
