We found a place to live! Its not ideal but it was the best option out there.  The good news is that Arduina and Leo will have an entire 15×11 room all to themselves.  The bad news is this place is all carpet.  Leo’s favorite past time hobby is digging a tunnel to China through carpeting..  Arduina will join in if he’s got it going.

How do I cover up the carpet? I was thinking about getting a roll of linoleum to lay down.. can this be laid down on the entire 15×11 room?  Does something need to be laid down on the floor first (between the carpet and the linoleum)? I need to figure out what to do with the edges of the linoleum because Leo will go after those first.  The other option is I could do a smaller section and have them in an xpen or two (I currently have one xpen but could attach 2 together).

I’m not very handy and we move in *hopefully* in two days! Help is greatly appreciated .

I have carpet in my room that I’ve caught Belle having a nibble at once or twice. I’ve put down a large fleece blanket on the floor where her pen sits and I’ve not seen her try to chew on that yet. Maybe you could try that or some old rugs? I’m sure others will have better suggestions!

Linoleum won’t stay flat unless you plan on not moving. We tried that once. I would recommend those puzzle piece mats for the floor and chloroplast for the edges.

Congrats on the new place! best of luck

I looked into the puzzle mats and they are quite expensive to do the whole room ($20-30 for 16 sqft). It sounds like linoleum only works on solid flooring and not carpet.. I guess I’ll have to buy some cheap area rugs to cover the room in. We don’t have any old ones since we just moved across country. They are both very well litter trained, they just like to dig through carpet. And they will shred a fleece blanket in about 20 minutes. Where can we buy large cheep rugs? Thanks for your help!

on occasion walmart has plastic runner mats… they have little pegs on the bottom of them so they hold firm in the carpet…

I don’t know if you have a Big Lots anywhere near you. They sell furniture and home decor stuff. VERY low prices!!! You could probably get a really fantastic price on those large rugs.

I was also wondering about this so let us know what you decide to do and how it works. Although the carpet in our new apt seems to be older stuff….so i might just pull it up.

Ross, KMart, and TJ Max are good places for things for lower prices. Sometimes WalMart and Target sometimes have rugs on sale for cheap. But I wouldn’t bet on it.

What if you laid down the lino and then got 2x4s and made a frame that laid around the outside edges of the room to hold it down? It would also double as a way to protect the baseboards and provide a chewing surface.

Or… I don’t know how much bricks or rectangular paving stones cost, but you could make a continuous border with those. They would be too heavy to move and would protect the edges of the lino.

We moved in this weekend, well haven’t started in packing yet. But I got the bunnies set up in their new room today. Since neither of us are handy and everything is still packed up, we went with a couple of large area rugs, the cheepest ones at lowes. they’ve only been in the pen for a few hours and already started chewing at the rug!! any suggestions??? I’ll get som bitter spray for the trim, but can’t spray that everywhere on the rugs? I can’t keep them in the 4×4 xpen forever, ill be working long hours and feel bad having them couped up. What to do…

I would post a photo but we won’t have Internet hooked up for another week (love te mobile site but can’t upload photos).

I know you said you looked into the puzzle floor pieces, but if you’re a Sams club member, they have an 8 pack of 2’x2′ reversible foam tiles which covers up to 33 sq ft for $20. I don’t know what sort of price range you were looking at, but that might be an option! There’s also a website that sells the floor tiles for $.95/sq foot here: http://www.rubberflooringinc.com/interlocking-tile/foam/12-eco-soft-tile.html so you might be able to measure exactly what you need and get that. Just a thought, I hope you figure it out–my bun is a carpet puller too, so I understand what you’re going through!

If me, i’d be trying the Lino secured like Beka suggested. It sounds like carpet rugs might be an on going problem if they’re intent on digging and chewing.

Can the carpet in that room be removed and stored somewhere for the duration of your lease?
