I just made Lola a new hay rack and thought I would post a picture in case anyone needed an idea.  The open side of the rubbermaid container is up against the NIC grid so she can pull out the hay while sitting in her potty box.  In the past I just put hay in the front of her litter box but with getting a new bun soon I thought I would give them enough room as possible to move around in there – don’t want to deter either of them from using it!  The “top” (actual side of the container) has a rectangle cut out of it with an exacto knife so I can stuff hay in.  I ended up cutting the lid in half and zip-tying it over the hole as a lid/flap because the little booger was trying to get into it from the outside even though she has hay 2 ft away.  Bunnies – so ornery!

Anyways – she is using it so we shall see how it works over the next couple days.  Hopefully will save a little money in hay if she isn’t tossing it all around and peeing on it.

That’s a neat idea. I just bought a weird little bait box thing with a flip top lid at Walmart, it kind of looks like a suet feeder. But I had to hang it inside the cage, I like how you made yours work outside and it still seems easy enough to stuff it.

That’s adorable! And I feel like it really fits Lola’s super cute personality.

That would be a great idea for you to market them! I love this idea it’s so cute ^-^ I stopped using the basket I bought for hay because it wasn’t working :/ went back to just putting it in her litter box. Good thing it was only $1

If Marine Science grad school fails – at least I’ll have a fall back in the bunny hay rack business.

Great and thrify idea!!! Love the little heart container. I should totally try this because my boys have decided lately that the hay bin makes a nice, convenient potty.

This is a fantastic idea! I’ve gone through a few failed hay rack options from pet stores and settled with just putting the hay in a bowl in front of the litter box, which as you mentioned, mostly ends up getting thrown around.

I am going to implement your idea this weekend, thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys! You can get cute decorate containers at Target – they have the hearts and zigzag ones in the children’s bedding section and they always have some sort of seasonal ones in the storage section – i have teal a big teal chevron striped one for her litter box that is so cute!
