Tried to clip his nails last night.  I read some past posts on here, watched some YouTube videos, and gave it a try.  Needless to say it was a little traumatic, he didn’t want to stay still and was trying to avoid me holding him.  I tried on my ottoman, then on the floor, finally after fighting him to stay in my lap he sat still and I was able to do his front paws.  But he wouldn’t go for the back paws at all.  I gave him a treat afterwards and he didn’t seem to hold a grudge.  He was a 4H pet, so I know he’s been groomed and trimmed before, I wonder if he’s being a brat because he’s only lived with me for 3 weeks, or because he was just neutered 2 weeks ago, or what?

I tried letting him stand or sit, trancing him (didn’t stay tranced) and finally the best way was him sitting still on my lap, but once I tried to get his back feet he threw a fit.  I’ve also been trying to work my way to brushing his rump and hindquarters a little, they are kinda nappy and tangled.  I have tried not to go too close to his nether regions because of the neuter, but it needs to be done soon I think.

Any pointers? I was so nervous about doing it and I guess to get 10 nails done on the first try is pretty good.  I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was told he was very tolerant of being groomed, trimmed, and having his glands done.  Does he just need more time to get used to me and trust me more?

With my first buns, I put her in a bunny burrito (wrapped in a towel like an infant) and pulled out one leg at a time. Our rabbit now won’t have that. I have to hold him with his back against my chest. My hubby then cuts the nails. My buns feels more secure like that. I keep one hand under his arms and one under his butt. We talk to him to calm him too.
