No matter where I put Lola's hay box she always poops and pees in it while eating. It's annoying. Even if I put it in the opposite side of the cage, so I know it's not a 'this is my poop corner' thing. I just don't know what to do. I feel like half her hay is wasted because I'm constantly taking out the pooped on hay. Plus I'm wasting a bunch of money like that.
Any suggestions??
Posted By SmokeyBunnyRobinson on 07/29/2012 04:34 PM Rabbits will poop while they are eating, it's just something that all rabbits do. Some people will actually put their hay in their litterbox so they can eat and use the bathroom. My rabbit, Smokey, used to do the same thing as yours. I got a hay rack that you hang on the outside of the cage, put the hay in, and they pull it through the bars. It cost me about $4.95 at Petco/Petsmart. Ever since then, the problem of wasted hay has been eliminated
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. I have one, it's just so small I gave up using it. She eats A LOT of hay so I was putting more hay in like every 45 mins. It just got to be too much. On the rare occasion that I give her pellets I'll still use that though.
I'll look around to see if I can find a bigger one though.
Posted By LBJ10 on 07/29/2012 04:51 PM What about one of those wooden feeders that has the holes on the side for the hay to be pulled out of? You could place that right next to the litter box so she can sit in the box and eat at the same time. I never really had a problem with my rabbits pooping in the hay. I know a lot of people put it in the litter box to encourage pooping in the litter box. Mine have a separate box that I put their hay in and they don't really poop in there.
I don't have one of those, but you just gave me a great idea! I have this square box that I can put hay in and put holes in and just put it next to the litter box. Same idea, I just won't have to buy anything. lol
