I’ve noticed a change in my bun’s poo within the past couple of days.  She’s had some “pearl necklaces” when the poo is strung together by hair.  Also I noticed that she’s been having some smaller sized poo.  I’m guessing that this is the beginning of a blockage.  Not too sure though.  Just in case, I’ve done some searching on the Forum here for some answers and saw that there were some suggestions to feed a bun pineapple or papaya to help with it.  I did get some pineapple and have been feeding it to Skipper.  It seems to be helping her poo a bit.  I have also made sure to groom her more than normal (much to her discontent).  Of course I have been giving her hay (both timothy and orchard).  Is there anything else I can do to help my bun?  She doesn’t seem to be pain (she’s been doing zoomies like crazy and her normal mischievous self).  I had made a vet appt. scheduled for the 3rd of August with a new vet that’s bunny savvy.  Should I move up the appt.?

As long as she’s eating/pooing she is ok and there’s no blockage. Its good the fur is coming out even if its in strings. Is she shedding? Try grooming her more frequently and you could reduce the amount of pellets/veggies for a day or two and encourage lots of hay eating.

I recommend oat hay, and grooming your rabbit.

A shedding bunny should be brushed daily. A good method to help get excess hair off, is after your done brushing, wet your hands and smooth over the bunny. This gets a lot of hair that could be licked off. Make sure she always has good quality, unlimited hay.

Thanks guys I tend to worry a lot over her.

She is currently not going through a shed. That’s why I find her having a blockage odd. Can over feeding her of veggies cause this? I’ve tried many different ways to groom her and none of them seem to be doing a decent job since her hair is so silky and fine. So I do a combination of running a flea comb through her hair since it seems to pick up the most. Then I run a pumice stone over it and finish with running wet hands through her fur. Because not much hair is picked up by the brush and is left just lying around I make sure to also vacuum up the hair. I do this pretty much everyday.

Skipper’s still on the young side, maybe seven months? Is it still okay to feed her oat hay to help with the problem?

Well, if she is having string of pearls poops, it’s not really a blockage. It’s okay to feed her oat hay at this age. Plenty of grass hay is important at any age. Veggies have fiber so that is a good thing.

Sounds like you have a good grooming system going there too.

Thanks Sarita I’m terrified of having anything bad happen to her. I’m not the wealthiest so I don’t have a ton of money to spend on vet bills. So I try to take the best care that I can of her. Okay thanks for the okay on the oat hay! I’ll go pick some up after work today. =]

It sounds like you take great care of her! Things that can help keep the gut moving are hay, hydration and exercise.
