I am not currently medicating my rabbit, however, I have always had trouble with doing so in the past. I have an incredibly stubborn french lop. Bunny burrito has no effect, he always knows what’s up or fights his way out. Pinning him down and trying to force a syringe in his mouth is pointless. Usually, no matter what I mix the medicine into, he ALWAYS knows. Banana baby food, applesauce, anything. My vet told me I could put it on his feet so he would lick it off. I never felt that he was getting his full dosage, but it worked a lot better than anything else. Has anyone else done this? Is there a better way? I want to be prepared for future medicine times.

I’ve heard of doing this but I just persevere and medicate my rabbits with a syringe as I am afraid as well that they don’t get a proper dosage.

I find that going to a bathroom or a small space and sitting on the floor and putting them in lap that way is the fastest and easiest way to medicate them. I figure I’m closer to the ground that way and it makes it faster.

Blue didn’t like taking his meds either, so I kneeled over him with him on the floor and had my wife give the dose slowly in his cheek. of course he would get mad and give a thump aftewards and turn his back for a few hours, but he got over it.

I feel your pain — two of my buns are the same way! Nothing I do has worked so far. The closest I’ve came is putting something he loves near his mouth and as soon as he opens to chomp I bring the springe from behind my back and squirt it in as fast as I can. That’s all I’ve got! My other girl takes it with no problem. She bites the tip and takes it like a champ.

one of my bunns will let me squirt it in her mouth, but then wont swallow. She will just sit there, holding it in her mouth and stare at me, as if to say, “you think youre so smart putting this in my mouth!?! well, im not going to swallow it!!” So when she does that, i hold a treat out for her to see, then she’ll swallow it and take the treat.
my other bunn is really wiggly and also wont allow the things your bunn wont. but i have found that if i cover her eyes, she does better. she still doesnt like it, but at least i can get some in her. but it does take some time. lots of head pets help to calm her…
