The buns don’t have a history of fleas, and this doesn’t look anything remotely close to a flea but I found it in Groucho’s fur when I was brushing him.  Both boys have had a lot of fur tuffs lately but I chocked it up to the warm weather (last week is was in the 100’s almost every day).  Their litter box gets changed out regularly and I’ve never noticed any bugs in there.  After I found this one I looked extra hard and even dug through poo to try and find something but came up empty.  I combed through their fur as well and there’s no bald spots/bumps or anything else that could point to mites, and I think this guy was too big to be a mite.

Anyone have any ideas?  Sorry the picture sucks but it was taken with a camera phone because I couldn’t find my camera.

the picture is very blurry but to me it looks like some kind of beetle, but it is quite hard to tell without seeing it more clearly. I dont think you have anything to worry about and that it was just passing by and decided to have a rest on your bun However if you start to see more of them on or around your buns or their cages i would probably investigate further, it is definitely not a flea and doesn’t resemble a tick or any other parasite that comes to mind, I think youre fine

I’m horrible at leaving my camera where I can find it. I think you’re right though. It’s also one of those things that my better judgment was telling me about the same thing but it’s always best to have someone else think the same as you or agree with you to feel more comfortable. I’ll probably still be a bit paranoid and keeping watching them and their litter and everything else though, just to be safe.

We often get the occasional odd bug in the height of the heat in summer, or when it rains, because they come inside to cool/dry off.
I would clean up the habitat and surrounding area in case something laid some eggs in the room, but otherwise I agree that it was passing by.

My folks have an exterminator once a month who swears he uses pet-friendly chemicals that are not harmful to the bunny, but he doesn’t spray near the habitat just the same. Still, it really helps keep the bug population down just when they begin to show up. Others may not agree with using this, but all exterminators will tell you if they have equipment that is non-toxic for dogs, cats, etc.

I had to dig to find some of the bun friendly sanitizing spray we have, it was still in a box from moving. But the whole bedroom and especially all the spots they lay got cleaned really good. Their litter box and cage soaked for a while in the stuff too then got scrubbed with lots of hot water and soap. Their cage gets cleaned out regularly so it wont be a problem keeping up on that. I’m fairly sure it was just a passerby though, but I’m still keeping an eye on his increasing amount of fur tufts despite brushing.
