I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this Sierra Valley brand hay. My rabbit has been on Oxbow Orchard Grass. He eats it fine. He does like the little Oat Hay samplers I got from BB as gifts, so I kinda wanted to get him some to mix in with Orchard. Oxbow doesn’t offer very big sizes of Oat though.

I’m about to run out of the Oxbow Orchard. Sierra offers 20 lb boxes for a good price, so I was going to order one of each. Their orchard grass (AKA Hawk Hay) is second cut though. I’m not really familiar with the quality of 2nd cut orchard grass hay or the company’s reputation, so I’d thought I’d ask here. Thanks for any help!

I’ve honestly never used the Sierra Valley brand. I have used the Oxbow and Kaytee for Orchard Grass. My bunny doesn’t like those brands though so I buy my hay actually from BB. I find that I spend less money buying hay in larger quantities. I would just do some comparison on the nutrition facts.

They are AWESOME!!! Their hay is the only thing my picky bun will eat. I had to do some serious searching after BB’s mini oat bales ran out last year, and that’s when I found Sierra Valley. They will customize your order with whatever you want – I get 11lbs of Oat and 5 lbs of the orchard/alfalfa mix in each shipment. The hay is fantastic and Bob and his wife are wonderful to deal with. I’ve never found any strange clumps of dirt, feathers, mold, or anything even remotely questionable in their hay before (cough *oxbow* cough)
They will give you samples of any of their products if you ask when you order. The only thing with the oat hay is, it’s so HUGE – some of the pieces are literally two feet long. I cut up the hay when I get it with scissors and put it into more manageable containers.
