So it being the season here in PA for corn on the cob, i was wondering if i can give my bunny dried corn husks.  At the pet store they sell wrapped up dried corn husks so i was going to make something similar to them. When i got them for my bun at the pet store he seamed to like them so i wanted to know if i could use fresh corn husks, dry them and then make them into a toy for him. Let me know =]  THANKSS

I wouldn`t and I wouldn`t suggest feeding the ones from the store either; it`s zero nutrition wise and dangerous and sharp. Big no no -but enjoy the corn yourself!

Green corn husks (especially organic) are recommended for guinea-pigs as forage, so I’d have to disagree.

I don’t know who recommended them, and I know guinea pigs can eat almost anything -figuratively speaking. They are quite different animals

A few points-guinea pigs are rodents, rabbits are lagomorphs and have very delicate digestive systems; unless things have changed the advice we’ve given on this forum is that corn is not good for bunnies-too sweet, too hard to digest, and dried corn can cause obstructions; so while it may be ok or good for guinea pigs, I would not advocate or advise feeding it to rabbits

I agree with KK, corn husks are not recommended for rabbits.  Though organic does eliminate the pesticide worry, it still doesn’t eliminate some of the other concerns – Here are some of the reasons stated from different rabbit savvy experts/sites:

This one is an answer that Dana Krempels (rabbit-savvy expert) gave regarding feeding corn husks:
“I would not give them corn husks for two reasons.  First, they are very stringy, and hard to chew.  Since I know of bunnies who have gotten the strings of celery caught on their teeth and caused serious problems, I would think the same thing might happen with corn husks.

…….I just wouldn’t feed them to my bunnies when there are so many other good things to feed them”

                This one is from COHRS

“Whole Kernel Corn of any kind (fresh, frozen, or canned – even the husks around the kernels can cause impaction)

Though I am sure there will be sources that will say they are just fine, any time I feel that there is some strong question, I agree with Dana that there are other good things that I know for sure are okay.  I’d rather stick to that.
