It’s 100deg today. And my electricity just flicked and I realized that if it goes out (including fans and AC) I don’t have a back up plan for keeping Cinnabun cool. I’m on the third floor of an apartment complex and don’t have a basement so what sort of emergency back up plans you do you guys have?? Please pray that my electricity doesn’t go out….

freeze some water in bottles quick, in a pinch you can put them on the floor with Cinnabun, and she can snuggle up to the coolness.

What about going for a car ride? Does your car have AC?
In the event of a long outage, could you stay with a friend/family member in another electricity zone/or who has a basement?

Worst come to worst…you can wet your bunny to keep them cool. Evaporative cooling is extremely effective.

If there is a breeze you can also hang some wet towels in front of the window. Evap cooling again. We call it bush aircon or fridge. Bushies and Drovers used to keep their food cool by hanging it in a box from a tree and placing wet hessian bags over it.

Thanks everyone. Luckily, the storm came quickly and passed just as quickly. There were a few flicks of the electricity but no outages. But I’ll keep all these in mind!

It’s going to be a long hot summer, and we just had our power go out for an hour this morning.
I would keep several small bottles of water in the freezer sort of permanently for future use. They are good for snuggling, but also it’s good for you to have them handy as well if it’s prolonged and you need water too.

Wrappiing a cold washcloth around the ears like a turban will bring down bunny’s body temp. and be comfortable. A covered enclosure that is out of the sun is like shade, especially on tiles.
But all this is on the link BB provided. Check it out.
And be sure to stay hydrated yourself!

Just want to add for those who may lose power for days or a week, like we do here in FL during a hurricane – fill a bathtub with clean water. Multiple uses.
Pack a box with canned and dried goods, like crackers, peanut butter, beans, etc. for eating. Flashlight, batteries, first aide kit.
Pack a bunny bag that you can grab and go with your carrier if you have to stay somewhere else. (Pellets, hay, bowls for water & food, water bottles, garbage bags, litter, paper towels.)
Car charger for cell phones, but expect that towers won’t work either. Often a land line will survive but not the internet access from your server.
Just a few tips. If your home is safe, best to grab a good book and wait it out.
