My rabbit(his name is pancakes ) has horrible ear mites so I researched online for home remedies and a lot of what I found is olive oil is great for the ears! So every day I put 3 drops in his ear and massage it then cuddle and give a treat! He is no longer shaking his head and itching his ears, but now his outside ears are pink and there is crust under the eyes and his ear hair has fallen off! Please help, he is actin normal and eating,  but I feel horrible for him! What should I do?

I’d say get him to a vet pronto… And yes I understand all too well that sometimes the money isn’t there to do so… It’s just my first suggestion. I have seen some horrible stories recently about buns that were only treated with olive oil for mites. Revolution Puppy and Kitten flea treatment will also get rid of the mites but you would want to use it before the skin gets too angry. You can buy a single ampule instead of the whole pack so the cost is greatly reduced. If you are fortunate enough to have a pet shop proprietor that also works in rabbit rescue as I do they can help with doses etc. Mean while consider the vet as the first option, it needs to be treated properly.

You have to take him to a vet. It’s imperative that you have him established with a local vet for routine or emergency care, and online remedies can often do more harm than good because you cannot get a proper diagnosis long distance. Most vets will let you work out a payment plan if money is the problem. Just ask. There are vets who specialize in bunnies that you can find via the links at the top of this forum if you don’t have one yet. Taking Pancakes to an exotics vet that knows rabbits instead of a nearby dog/cat vet will save you expenses in the long run because you will get him treated right the first time.
