        Hi,

I was just brushing my rabbit’s legs and the area around her female parts when I noticed some dried blood in the side of her female part. Like if you pull the skin apart a little bit, there was a small amount of dried blood. I looked on the other side and it seems to be doing the same thing but it appears to be just starting. I am not sure what is going on at all or what to do. Since tomorrow is Sunday, I know my vet’s office is closed and I am scheduled to work all day tomorrow anyways. I don’t know what I should do or what this could even be. Will my bunny be ok until Monday? someone please help!

That is strange. how old is your bunny? Have you noticed her straining to pee or hanging out in the litterbox longer than normal? Is her fur normal arond that area or does that whole area look sore. The areas that are bleeding does it look like cuts or sores? Obviously, there is no way for us to know what is really going on for sure, but if she seems like she is not in any pain, and she is eating, pooing, urinating normally, then I would just call your vet first thing Monday to try and get her in. Otherwise if she is acting abnormally — listless, not eating, not pooing, then more urgent action may need to be taken.

That’s odd. Did she have any visible wounds or was it really coming from her private parts? Are you certain that it was blood and not red pee? (It’s not uncommon for bunny pee to be dark orange or red.)

This type of bleeding could be caused by any number of things…if she’s not spayed, it could even be a sign or uterine cancer. Definitely get her to a vet tomorrow morning.

I’m wondering if you’ve actually found her scent glands? The waxy substance there can look reddish brown or sometimes black. And it smells!

I was thinking the same thing Jers! It sounds like dark scent gland gunk.

                OP-any update?
